I will be buying an iPad for XMAS. That being said I don't admire Apple knowhow like I admire Intel. Intel is an impressive company full of hardworking smart engineers. Intel could crush the competition if they wanted to and surpass Apple but Intel is held to much higher standards and scrutiny. Intel works with many companies to develop and share technology and educates people. Apple has been sued many times for stealing and patent infringement. They also charge exorbitant amounts for their proprietary hardware since the beginning of time.

Please don't remind me of this. I was about to put $20K into apple stock in 2002 A ~$7/share - then I got laid off and put 10K into an S&P fund and 10K into a money market. Dumbest financial move I've ever made. My investment would now be worth $1.8M

You are entitled to your opinion, but if you knew Apple you would know that it is impressive company full of hardworking smart engineers - and an unparalleled marketing department. Intel has been sued just as often as Apple; Intel usually settles out of court, Apple doesn't. Apple likes to make a public point about the value of their brand (turning a trial into a marketing strategy) - we may not agree, but it's worked for them so far, just look at their market cap.

Intel could not just turn around and decide to crush Apple. For one, Apple has more $$s in the bank than Intel. Secondly, Intel's marketing department is no where near as good as Apples. Remember that Intel *bought* allot of sales by paying 'premiums' to HP, Dell, Compaq, etc to use Intel chips instead of AMD. Thirdly, Intel knows very little about consumer end product markets compared to Apple. Lastly, there is just know way you can buy 'a shared institutional common belief system' like there is is at Apple.

Chill up, fanboy. Apple has mediocre engineers, with brilliant marketing that sell mediocre quality as being gold. Keep in mind that apple uses Intel processors. Also keep in mind that apple once bought software from microsoft. Honestly the only respect i bear regarding to Apple, is for the marketing department, and the designers.

Uh, not a fanboi, very happy running Win7 atm. There are some outstanding engineers at Apple. The iPad/iPhone are hardly mediocre. Finally, Microsoft stole more code from Apple than vice versa, and paid Apple a large chunk of change for that error.

You don't know me. I realize that you are new here, so you just may want to be careful about assuming that which you do not know. Have a nice day.

As far as the "quality" of these corporates go, my view is that they're made up of people who come and go, migrating from one corp to the other as time goes by.
The organizational culture tends to be determined from the top down, and when the founder moves on its usually profit that drives the remaining senior management.

The lower level workers who care about the product or service in such a culture can only do their best; riding out the waves of recurring management "initiatives" designed to reduce costs or manage risks, and trying to effect change and innovation from the bottom up. The other option for them is to leave and join a company which still has a visionary leader or start their own company.

Here, here. Their engineers are nowhere near the class of engineers Intel has. They have patents on iTunes lol. I wasn't referring to Intel crushing Apple, they give Apple their brains. I said they could crush the competition (chip makers) and if Intel wanted as much money as Apple desires, Intel could have made triple from jacking prices. And I admit I am biased but like you said I have my opinion. Also, giving vendors a credit for buying Intel products like they use to is not so unethical. Lot's of companies gave money (discounts) to make sales.

    Deja vu.....

I almost bought their stock at $7 a share as well....but I just thought....at that time....the company was ultimately doomed....and i was throwing money away.

Then they went mobile and WOW....Shows you what I know...LOL

I bet people forget that MS actually loaned Apple some money just so they could stay afloat about that time.

    How the world changes!
