On one side, the world simply doesn't need as many desktop motherboards as it has in the past. Demand is shifting to laptops and tablets, so Intel is responding to changing times. On the other side, companies like*Asus, Gigabyte and Asrock are meeting existing demand with a wide variety of motherboard products with innovative features...*
Intel boards also offered a good baseline for performance comparisons.
Hmm, amazing news really. Just more confirmation that the PC's days are seen to be numbered by the powers that be. Its an amazing thought that one day soon the tablet will have enough grunt to run all our apps.
Thats sad. I bet Intel talked this thoroughly over and made up it's mind already and that is where the rumor came that there would be no more socketed CPU's because that would be the next step.
Does this change anybodies mind about getting an Intel board for Haswell. Support will continue for 3yrs so you would be fine. Really, Intel boards are great, the Extremes over clock high and any higher is really not dependable. They also offer 3rd party software like the other manufacturers. I will look over the available boards for Haswell and choose what I like best. It could an Intel board for me, especially if it is the last chance.
No surprise here. I and many others like me are looking at tablets, smartphones, and cross-platform pollination.
Haswell will be my last PC.
Yup same here. I think it is already a waste. Believe me we will look back at these huge boxes and will wonder what we were doing lol. What really makes no sense is NVidia. How they survive on a product so costly, so huge, so hot, and so expensive just to play games is astonishing. You could fit 8 iPhones or 4 mini iPads the size of one of their cards and still use less than half the power. If it weren't for NVidia I could downsize my case along with the power supply to something the size of the 80's Atari Mega ST.
At least Haswell will be a great chip. It will be fast and power saving and will have a cool running chipset with lots of fast interconnects.
I am all in for have an absolutely quiet (has to be cool to be quiet) and completely stable and dependable box this next time around.
BTW, I want to mention that with Intel you get the best support. I'm not talking about online drivers. I'm talking about if it breaks they send you a new one. ASUS has you send them the mobo and they repair it (maybe) and it takes a long time. Thats something to consider being mobo's might be going the way of the Dodo and this could be your last one.

I really only had one Intel mainboard. Back in the Bad Ax days I guess the bottom line just isn't good enough for Intel anymore.. How you been FV? I've been working my *** off and haven't had much time to spend here in a while. Still like to drop in now and then
When I first posted this last night I was hoping it was a rumour. It's all over the web today!
After Haswell, who knows. Apple is starting to interest me!
