Why Join ABX Specifically?
Why should you make ABX your forum of choice? If I were new to the Computer Enthusiast world today, just starting out, I'd join ABXfor the following reasons:
- The logo states the basic mission of ABX: "Supporting computers and building friendships". The people here are the greatest asset we have and every member who has been here for any length of time is extremely people oriented as well as being superbly knowledgeable in one or more facets of computing.
- In our book there is no stupid question! New members are not chastised for asking questions that have been asked many times before by others who wore the same shoes (although we do encourage the use of the search feature).
- You're getting in on the ground floor of something very new and exciting! ABX will soon undergo a major face lift with an entirely new look and many exciting new tools to help our members.
- We've also recently initiated a professional review wing of ABX called ABXLabs. No, we don't have a paid team of dedicated authors; we have an unpaid team of dedicated authors. We believe our members have more than enough knowledge and writing ability to get the job done. Anyone who demonstrates that ability from new to old is welcome to join our ABX Review Team.
- We have perks for our members that most other forums don't offer, like:
- A member's only software store where our member can receive moderate to substantial discounts on some of the top software in the enthusiast community
- When a review, article, or how-to guide is published we have a special forum which is also members only where they can download a PDF version of the content
- Our members are involved in key decision making tasks that involve the forum
- We offer our members the ability to showcase a custom avatar and title after only 90 days of membership
- Much more to come
- There's generally someone on the forums that can answer your question(s) or help you with a problem in a very short time.
- ABX endeavors to provide an enriched environment suitable for the entire family, meaning the use of profanity, sexist comments, heated political debates, and other similar material is prohibited. We strive to be a PG-13 site.
- We offer a Folding At Home (FAH) team that serves to not only aid medical science but promotes a friendly team-oriented competition amongst our team's members…I might add we're ranked pretty high in the national standings for our work is this worthwhile project.
- A management team that is geared to not just keeping up with the times but focused on being trend setters and making ABX a leader in the vast array of computer forums available today.
Conclusion
Today's world requires every person to become at least moderately computer literate. This is evidenced in almost every aspect of life ranging from something as complex as on-line college degrees that meet the needs of those that have to work and attend school conjointly; to something more simple like taking a test for your drivers license. Children and adults alike are being expected to function somewhat fluently with computers and the roles they play in everyday life.
My primary reason for getting involved with computers in the early '80's was the time they saved me doing mathematical computations in the business world. I was also publishing technical journals both associated with work as well as hobbies that I had. Next came entertainment that was associated with the simple games of that era. Each year my fervor for computing grew as did the technology to support that passion. My primary impetus for joining a forum was to be able to simply keep up with that technology and to further fuel my addiction.
In conclusion, since joining ABX, my first forum, I've never looked back! I've learned a tremendous amount that's only served to increase my appetite for more. I've helped a number of people with my experience on issues that I had faced over the years many that were quite unique. I've also profited by the knowledge of others who are vastly more experienced than I. I've met some truly incredible people many of which have become everlasting friends. There's absolutely no reason why your experience can't be at least equal to or possibly even more rewarding than mine!
