If you want your start button like in W7 back, using Metro apps in the desktop like any other program, it sounds like MS is finally listening to there customers. You can do all this now with Stardocks apps, Start8 and Modern Mix, but it will be apart of 8.2 if this story comes true....

This is the first step in subtly separating the OS's between desktop and mobile. The way Apple does it.

I didn't realize the soap-opera like politics going on inside M$ over the past year or so. I used to keep up on this stuff. Guess that shows how underwhelmed I was with Win8.

Interesting news though! Thanks FV & Jim.

Well, after the Vista debacle, we didn't get W7 for free. I think Win8.1 was a one time deal for M$. So I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Sounds like it not due out for about another year.

I was just listening to Mary Jo Foley, and she said the start button could back in a W8.1 update in early 2014! You can watch it at 53:30 of this video podcast!

Awesome - Win8.1 update 1 - I would think that would be free. Win8.1 is becoming more interesting to me again, since it seems, at least, like MS has a plan; and one that will help traditional desktop users!

Thanks FV, I'll check out the link this weekend :tiphat:

It shouldn't take a year to add a Start menu, especially when they took it out to begin with.

I already have the weather shortcut on my desktop, that is all I need. I never go to the Start/App pages.

Just wanted to let you know how to get any metro app on your taskbar....you should browse some of the apps, I use the tide app, TWIT View witch is a app for Leo Leports podcast network....there are some very nice ones, just like the Ipad!

Thanks bud, again I am not interested in getting Metro apps on the taskbar, just the weather app on my desktop which I have been using since I got Win8.1.

I like windows key and C brings up the charms bar...

I took a look at the Charms bar/Settings when I first got 8.1 but I haven't used Charms since. I guess I'm not a fitting in with 8.1 too nicely lol.

There is a way to disable all the things Win 8.1 if you are interested including Charms, the 4 corners, etc. I saw a lengthy guide to returning 8.1 to Win7 if anybody is interested.

I am golden with the way things are now with Stardock software. When Win8.2 arrives I will jump on it.

Another thing, some of the apps on the start menu are cloud based and won't run unless you open an MS account which I have not done.
