The internal USB ribbon cable Asus supplies with the iPanel is too short for any large cases. It's a serious oversight for many users. Another six or so inches would have solved the issue. It's critical for my application, and the total length doesn't matter because I am only using the iPanel to plug in a small USB dongle at the front (i.e. the total USB length won't be exceeded). I tried making a longer one using a spare ribbon cable from a USB header but soldering ribbon cable is not my forte. Where can I buy a longer 5x2 USB ribbon cable? I've looked everywhere but can't find one. I'd pay good money for it! Thanks Moe

I went to l local cumputer shop, not a chain. They hunted around their box of parts - came up with a 5X2 at one end that split to two 5 pins. Just had to move one pin around but you might not have to do that. charged me under $7 for the ribbon and it works great.

Looks like I'll be visiting the local computer shop for help. Nice to see others with my same problem... | |

ipanel cable i too, have a large case. it's actually a pretty simple matter to make a longer cable. scrounge up an old ide cable, cut it to length desired. start at the red edge of the ribbon and count ten wires. use an exacto knife to start a cut between the tenth and eleventh wires. pull the wires apart with your hands. now go back to the ten wire ribbon cable that came with your ipanel. carefully note the orientation of each end(where the red wire is). take a jewelers screwdriver or the exacto knife and lift the locking catch on each side. the end will now come apart. put it on the new longer cable exactly the opposite way you took it off. i used a channelok pliers so the pressure was equal on both pieces. if you are really worried about breaking the plastic, pad the channelok jaws with a small piece of wood. works like a champ for me. hope this helps

Another option would be an Antec Easy USB. I purchased one someplace for ~ 10 USD. The USB cable that comes with it is long enough for me to put it at the top of my full tower case. The cost difference isn't great if you are planning on buying a cable. Just add it to an order next time you buy parts online.
