Firefox and Logitech iTouch

I just started using Firefox as my browser again and was disappointed to see that I had a problem with my Logitech Cordless MX Duo. The iTouch hotkeys would not function in Firefox. Searched here and found nothing--I think that's a first. I would think others here would have the problem. Anyway, a google search yielded lots of complaints but few solutions beyond some complex registry tweaks that seemed to only work part of the time and caused other problems. I finally found a solution. The hotkeys will not work if they are programmed to a web site, but you can get them to work to point them to a program, in this case Firefox. After the path to firefox.exe add a space and then type the web address of the site you want. The key will then work. I have attached a shot of one of my configurations. One thing to look out for--you have to go back and type what you want in the Name after you complete the path and web page.

This is funny! I loaded Firefox last night and started playing with. I soon realized it wouldn't play right with my Logitech iTouch hotkeys. I didn't try to find a cure yesterday, but put it on my list of things to do today. You saved me some research grsamf!

If you use the microsoft mouse drivers (forget what they are called) it will work np. They even work with the logitec stuff.

After trying for several hours to find a solution to the iTouch + Firefox problem, I contacted their tech support. I got the following email from them this morning:
Quote:
Dear Logitech Customer,

Thank you for contacting Logitech's Electronic Customer Support.

Unfortunately, Firefox browser is not supported by iTouch software. The iTouch software supports the browsers listed below:

America OnLine 5.0 - 9.0
- Internet Explorer 4.0 - 6.0 SP1
- NetScape 4.6 - 7.0
- MSN Explorer
- MSN 8
- Opera 6.03 - 6.05

You will need to register the desired browser from the supported list above as the default browser with Windows to use the iTouch software with this browser. Please see Windows documentation for information on setting up a default browser.

We hope this addresses your concerns about using the keyboard properly.

If you have any additional questions regarding your product, please feel free to visit our website at www.logitech.com. Thank you for your interest in Logitech.

Regards,
I responded to that email with the solution that I found and told them I was disappointed they did not know of that workaround or if they did know, that they weren't willing to share it with me. I refrained from accusing them of being so much in bed with the big boys that they didn't want to encourage the use of Firefox.

And darn it, garnet, if I had known you were hot on the trail of the problem, I would have waited and let you spend the time finding the solution for me.

In my search this morning for other tweaks I did find the work around for the iTouch. I also found some tweak settings for the user.js file that gave the browser a serious increase in speed on my dial up. Load times seem at least 50% faster!
One issue that I haven't found a fix for is the reusing of open web pages when clicking on links in outlook emails. Under IE, when you click on the outlook email link, it opens a new page....not with Firefox. This is the only thing about Firefox that frustrates me at this point!

The instructions for that are here but I can't get it to work. I can create the user.js file, but I think I am doing something wrong when I try to open it and edit it.

Yes, I did it that way and it worked fine for a while and then stopped working. I deleted the user.js file and tried again, but no go! :confuse2:
I can't find anything else regarding it in the Mozilla forums.

grsamf....OK I've got it to work.....sort of! :o Using tabs! So if you want to use this feature and it's kind of cool! Download and install Tabbrower extension. Under Preferences/Advanced Use - choose Any Link and Any Page load from other applications. Each time you click in an email link within Outlook a new tab opens up the web page. I will take a little while to get used to!
EDIT: After some experimenting, leave all boxes under Advanced Use unchecked!

I think my brain may be on hold today. I don't seem to get anywhere at all with that. Of course, I am trying to figure out if I totally destroyed my computer desk by trying to remove a panel that I thought was for decoration but apparently provided some stability.

I am also still playing with the user.js. It has sort of worked a couple of times.

I've been playing with the tab function and I like it! It wasn't difficult to set up, just install the extension and it works!

Great workaround! I have a question though, I can only get my keyboard (Internet Navigator Pro) to power off using the recessed "Sleep" button of the keyboard with I-Touch software version 2.15 (with a Reg key provided by Logitech from their support site), however with later versions up to 2.22 the Reg key no longer works in showing an option in Power Options. I have attached a pic to make things clearer.
