ASUS P6TD Deluxe build slow to wakeup

When I initially built my ASUS P6TD Deluxe/ i7-950 based system I inadvertently configured the hard drives as IDE. I let it ride knowing I was going to do a clean install as soon as my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 arrived.

Wakeup times from the IDE configured hard drives was acceptably quick.

When I received the W7 upgrade I performed a clean install, set the drives as RAID, and built a RAID 1 array out of two ea. WD RE 1TB drives. The boot drive is not RAID and is still on the WD VelociRaptor 300GB as before. I also have a single WD 1T black I use as a scratch disk and non-critical archiving.

The wakeup time is now notably longer and I'm hoping there is a way to shorten it.

By slow to wake up, the log-in screen takes a little longer to show up after clicking the mouse or similar, entering my password and seeing the windows desktop isn’t noticeably slower, but opening applications takes longer, even Explorer and especially Outlook.

Any advice or suggested trouble shooting steps to point me to? I’m hoping the answer isn’t, RAID configured systems just take longer so deal with it.

Thanks in advance.

Or, how to blow a lot of money fast...

Cheesed of that the system I built a year and a half ago never measured up to my expectations and finally died, I decided to build a higher end system and be done with it. I had to delve into a rainy day fund to put this together and pressed the button today. I hope this lasts me at least three to five years (with a few upgrades along the way).

The case is overkill, but I'm hoping to get back into H2O cooling within the next couple of years - so that's a bit of future proofing. I needed a new case anyway, since the vid cards are too long for my old one.

Hey guys, I know it has been a while. :<

I am having a problem with my windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit and my HP laserjet 2430TN. Specs of PC are in Sig and the Printer is Networked via a 24 Port Linksys gig switch. I have only my PC a Server and my kids 4 PC's on the switch. Oh and my Printer has a static IP with the rest of the PC's DHCP.

Everything was going good on my Windows 7 box until I tried to print to the HP and the job just hung in limbo. I deleted and started again with no luck.
Once the Windows 7 box came back up the printer spitted out what I had printed before. Tried to print again no luck, repeated above step. It got to the point where I removed the printer and tried to add the printer but 7 will not detect that there is a printer at that IP(192.168.1.50). I can ping the Printer from my pc and ever other pc in my workgroup. I can even web to the Printer and the firmware for the Jetdirect is current.

I installed the Printer on an XP machine via IP and it works great. Windows 7 sees it as a shared printer but i dont want to share it from another machine.

Keep in mind that this was all working for a couple of weeks until recently. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Firstly do windows updates do any actual good ? Seriously. Or does it just junk up the system even more ? Id appreciate your actual feedback from your experiences.

Secondly. If its really useful how do i save windows updates to my system for offline installation later on. I very often need to restore my system with norton ghost etc. And also first id like to see if the windows updates make my pc experience worse or better. And then if i need to i will restore my system and decide to go without the updates. If contrary results ensue then i will keep them safe for future reinstalls.

My windows is original OEM on my laptop. But can i get an offline updates installer that can be reused ? If so how and where ?

Thanks....

The holiday season is heating up and another FPS was released last night at midnight. Left 4 Dead 2----the sequel to the highly acclaimed original Zombie shooter from Valve. New scenes, new survivors, nerve searing action, new weapons and levels that reshape themselves (your favorite shortcut may now be a dead end with Infected waiting to ambush) all add to this latest version. Along with the release of COD Modern Warfare 2 last week and Borderlands a few days before that, the FPS genre on the PC is undergoing a mini renaissance. Bottom line: If you are a FPS fan for the PC-----the holidays are shaping up nicely. Shoot, I'm still blasting my way through Borderlands which is highly addictive in itself! Fun!!

Here's is a fairly in-depth review from IGN:

Windows 7 Is Quickly Displacing Vista -- But Not XP

Windows 7 is surging. After an insanely popular beta cycle, Microsoft's latest and greatest has exploded out of the gate, grabbing more than 4 percent of the real-world usage base as tracked by InfoWorld's Windows Pulse service -- after only a few weeks of general availability.... There seems to be a direct correlation between Windows 7 adoption and Vista abandonment, with the latter losing a percentage point and the former gaining the same in a little over a week... with XP holding steady at just under 64 percent.

Need Help! I want to watch ESPN 360 Football on my HDTV!

AV guys----I need help and suggestions!!

A little background first:

I LOVE Nebraska Football! Born there, grew up there, played there, (well, all of three weeks on the Freshmen team) but I digress---I love the Huskers and I live and die Nebraska Football every Fall Saturday much to the amusement of my Southern Belle wife who just doesn't "get it".

Football to a Nebraskan is MORE than football-----it's just a way of life...

Anyway----I live in VIRGINIA now----and trying to stay up with the Huskers on Saturdays out here on the East Coast is *tough*.

Well----along comes the miracle of* ESPN 360 *on the internet and virtually every Nebraska game this year has been available on it. So me being the family "Techie"-----I hooked a laptop with* VGA out to the VGA in *of my HP MediaSmart 42 inch High Def (1080p) TV.

The laptop had a Turion Z-80 dual core processor----4 gigs of RAM and Radeon 3200 onboard video----so I believed it had plenty of horsepower to run the 1080i TV (the laptop *did NOT have DVI out or HDMI out*. (The laptop rates at 4.4 on the Windows 7 user scale)

I also ran a network cable to a gigabit switch and disabled the wireless on the laptop....

Results----it was better than NOTHING----but I thought it was really dissappointing.

Loss of frames
some bad pixelation at times
jumpy
sometimes it would freeze

The sound came through beautifully---never any problem there----and the problems seemd to only appear when I ran it in *full screen *mode.

I ran the same game simultaneously off of ESPN 360 in my garage on my 22 inch monitor and my i7 machine in full screen mode and it was quite good the whole time.

What could be my issue and can you make some suggestions to make this a more watchable experience???

Is the processor not powerful enough?
Is it Internet bandwidth issues?-----seems unlikely as this same gigabit switch sends a internet to my Roku box that feeds to my HDTV for Netflix and Amazon Video On Demand----and looks gorgeous on it!
Is the Radeon HD 3200 Onboad Graphics not powerful enough to run the 1080i big screen??
Is the analog VGA hookup not nearly as capable??? Would digital HDMI be MUCH better??
Is it the Screen refresh rate of the HDTV? My specs say it is 6ms on the Hi Def TV

Don't care about gaming----just want to have a watchable TV experience off of ESPN 360

For $300 I can build a great little HTPC box with an AMD Callisto 550, DualCore, 4 gigs of RAM and HD 4200 Onboard Graphics with an additional 128 Sideport memory soldered in. The board would have HDMI out. For $150 more I could even go an i5 route with a dedicated fanless HD 4670 (but I suspect this is way overkill)

Help or suggestions appreciated.

Places to Buy Custom PCs

In the past, I built all of my PCs. Now I need to upgrade my old PC before it dies and I'm planning on going with Windows 7, but I don't have time to build it myself.

I don't want to go with a Dell or HP type shop. I want to buy from a place where I have a selection of parts and can have some choices. Here are a few I've found (though I haven't tried any of them yet):

CyberPower Inc (http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/)

iBUYPOWER (http://www.ibuypower.com/)

Uberclok Products (http://www.uberclok.com/)

Does anyone have any experiences with these? Can you recommend any others that you have heard good things about?

Thanks!

Unfortunately Newegg is still shipping a mix of C0 and D0 steppings, so it's a crap-shoot ordering from them**. I've found that I can get D0s at Tankguys, don't know much about them. So... any comments on Tankguys or where else I can get D0 chips online would be appreciated.

TIA!

**Too bad too, I would have gotten $20 extra off for the combo with the P6T.

Is XP Pro to Windows7 worth doing yet?

I have been thinking about moving from XP Pro to Windows 7. I have been with XP for over five years now and my system is rock solid and runs well. I have been reading through various posts on this and other forums and mostly people seem to address the level of difficulty involved in making the switch - and usually from Vista to W7. What I want to know is what difference does it make to using a PC in the real world? I don't care if it loads 9.3 seconds faster(or even three minutes faster) because I can use that time to make a coffee or get a beer - what I want to know is does it make pictures and graphics look better on my screen? Does it make communicating with other PC's or devices in my home easier? Is there software that will only run on W7 but not XP? In other words is it actually worth buying or once it is bought and installed is it forgotten about until it goes t*ts up and needs to be re-installed in twelve months time?

Socket burn, better to go with s1366 vs s1156?

Well, researching motherboards lately I'm running into reviews where the reviews or community member have had problems with Foxconn LGA 1156 socket contacts burning up and ruining motherboards and CPUs. Of course, 90% of the S1156 boards use Foxconn sockets! Some recent high end boards from Gigabyte (LOTOS sockets) and EVGA (TOYO sockets) - but some of these boards are really expensive ($350 :eek2:).

In light of these teething problems for LGA 1156 boards - I'm wondering if I'd just be better of with a tried and true LGA 1366 board (like Asus' P6T v2). It will still cost me more this way, but at least I'd have peace of mind.

Comments and suggestions welcome!
Thx!
