ABXzone had an Iframe exploit over last weekend

The weekend of 09/04/2010 I was blocked from getting to the ABXzone forums by Avast 5 Free. Avast claimed the site had a Iframe exploit. I did some research and found AVG Online Web Page Scanner (http://www.avg.com.au/resources/web-page-scanner/) and it reported the same thing so I think the threat was real. I emailed Crowdgather about the problem but did not receive a reply, holiday weekend and all. Late Monday or early Tuesday they must have fixed the problem. Now I have no way of knowing exactly what the exploit was intended to do. Generally Iframe exploits are a link placed on a site by an advertiser. If a person follows this link its possible they could get infected.

The main reason I'm posting this is to recommend that everyone that visited ABXzone between 9/4 and 9/7 should make sure they were not infected by running a full scan with their AV. I'd also recommend a full system scan using MBAM (http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php) free version. Keep in mind this was not the fault of ABXzone. This is happening all over the net. I hope Crowdgather will reply to this thread with more info on what happened. See screen shots below.

Sound distortion after blowing out case

This problem is driving me nuts and I haven't been able to find this exact problem after a couple days of googling. My problem is that my sound is very distorted, it sounds very tinny with a bit of feedback and other distortion.

The chain of events that led up to this goes as follows.

A few days ago my graphics card pretty much crapped out on me. Out of nowhere my screen looked like some psychedelic 8-bit blizzard. I tried restarting the computer and got the same results. I opened the case and there was a fairly impressive layer of dust over everything. I pulled out the vacuum and sucked the majority of the dust out and then blew as much of the rest of it out as I could (with my lungs I mean, I didn't have any canned air on hand). When I hooked everything back up the problem seemed to have fixed itself, however my sound was now screwed up. A few hours go by and the graphics go out again, this time for good. I buy a new graphics card the next day, install it (and clean out the case real good with some canned air), and problem solved... except for this damn sound.

Now this problem persists no matter what the sound source is, movies, games, system sounds, etc. It is also not related to my speakers because sound is still distorted when I plug in headphones.

I have unplugged and replugged in everything multiple times, and also blown some air into the headphone jack thinking I might have gotten dust in it, and no dice. I have onboard sound so I'm not able to unplug a sound card to test that out.

I had some spare pc parts, ASUS PT6, i7 920, Corsair 6gig of memory.
So's I went to Microcenter and bought all the other parts for a new build.
But what I want to comment on, is Corsairs new H70 liquid cooler.
Newegg.com - CORSAIR Hydro H70 CWCH70 120mm High Performance CPU Cooler (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181013&Tpk=corsair%20h70)
Its an easy setup for CPU cooling. It keeps my oc'ed 4200mhz cpu at idle
39-40c and under max load 69-70c. It has a push-pull fan setup. I could
get better temps if I had not changed out the inside fan for a slower rpm
blue LED fan. But this setup works at keeping my 4200mhz stable....
So far I'm happy with the H70. It just replaced the H50 cooler.....

As most of you know Windows 32bit OS's are limited to 4g and in most cases (as with me) 3g of system memory. Evidently this is an intentional kernal lock and can be removed. My laptop (running win7 x86) with 4g RAM installed now shows all 4 in use compared to 3 without the patch. See article and patch download link here:

UNAWAVE - 32-bit Windows 7 with full 4 GB or 8 GB RAM support (http://www.unawave.de/windows-7-tipps/32-bit-ram-barrier.html?lang=EN)

I don't know how much real time advantage this really has but the author claims that Win 7 can use up to 64g RAM!

I would be interested in other people's opinion of this. :coffee:

Motherboard ratings

How accurate are the motherboard reviews and others on Newegg? I do not like to purchase things that are prone to problems and try and use reviews made by the users of the item being reviewed.
It seems that the motherboard that I was going to use in my post about a new build is not rated as good as a few others. The one I was going to use was the Asus P7P55D-E LX LGA but I see that the GIGABYTE GA-P55-USB3 LGA 1156 has a much better review then the Asus.
Other motherboards in the same price range that have a very good review are BIOSTAR T5 XE CFX-SLI and ASUS P7P55D PRO.
All I want is a company that had a quality product that can be easily dealt with if there are problems.
I have never had a problem with my current Asus motherboard that I could not figure out myself. I know many problems may be those of the owner not understanding what to do and not the motherboard.
Is the Gigabyte motherboard a better buy and better quality over the Asus boards?
Can one rely on the reviews?

There are no losers in this group of heat sinks. All do a superb job of keeping an overclocked Gulftown from broiling itself and are well manufactured. All have good to excellent mounting systems and had no clearance problems with any components around the socket.

Cannot install Asus Camera Driver

Hello,

My parents have an Asus F3SV notebook computer running Windows Vista 32bit.

They use skype to talk to my brother overseas.

The camera flips the image upside down regularly and this is a known problem, apparently easily fixed by installing a new camera driver.

According to the Asus website I first had to located the PID number for the camera to find the correct driver via device manager. I did this, the PID is 174F&PID_6A31.

I then downloaded the appropriate camera driver: D-Max_GD-5A35 Camera Driver V6.21.70.004 for Windows Vista 32bit.

If I run the exe file (in Administrator mode) to install the driver it just pops up a message that it failed to install.

If I go to safe mode and install the driver, when I reboot the computer in normal mode it blue screens each time. I have to go back to safe mode to uninstall the new camera driver before I can reboot the notebook.

If I go to 'device manager' and 'camera' and point it to the downloaded driver and direct Windows to install it, it crashes the computer.

I researched the upside down camera problem and for most people it was a simple task of installing the new driver.

I have wasted 6 hours on trying to solve this issue and have raised the matter with Asus via their support services on their website - no response, hopeless.

Any ideas, I'm at my wits end and my parents are desperate to see my brother and his family on skype without their picture being upside down.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Cheers

ASUS QVL memory support list

Hi Guys,

I am trying to figure out if the Rampage III Gene MB will work with a certain memory pack from Corsair but I cant really make sense of the QVL list from Asus. From my understanding the Corsair memory TR3X6G1600C8D will only be supported with ONE module only in the MB?! Is there anyone that can confirm this by reading the QVL list?

Thx

I have a 46" JVC 1080P lcd on the wall in my computer room hooked up to a cheap 800 watt Sony AVR and a Comcast HD box and at average listening volume with 5.1 surrond speakers I'm running it draws 306 watts. Pretty neat device for $19.

Hey Guys! Been a long, long time!

Well...I'm going to be retiring here very soon from folding. Probably when I break the 7 mil mark. Need to take a break, give my electric bill a break, and focus on some other things in my life. I've been folding since 2002 and feel like I made a pretty good contribution to the cause and the team. Still a really hard decision to make.

I wish all you guys well! It has been great being on the team with everyone. Great job!

New build

Have been holding off on a new build - I was a long time 875PBZ fan and still have 3 of them operational / in use, along with my 975XBX2.

Kind of got the itch for a new build and was thinking of building an 1156 using:

Asus Maximus III Formula board (P55)
Intel 875K Lynnfield
Muskin Blackline 4GB (2 X 2GB) DDR3 1333
Seasonic 750 PS
Radeon 5870
MS windows 7 professional 64-bit

Thoughts / comments?

Am I nuts for not going with 1366? 1156 looks like a reasonable solution.

Never used an Asus board before, but feedback on the Intel P55 board has not been overwhelming.

Always used Mushkin - is 4GB of 1333 the right choice. I am not a big overclocker.

Appreciate your feedback before I pull the trigger.

Thanks

Hi all,

Cloud_Zone here looking to learn, share, cry and laugh about everything to do with cloud computing. Lots of clouds in London, but not the ones I am looking for. Have been spreading the cloud word on twitter for a while now, but 140 characters will only get you so far.
If you know, love, hate or want to share anything on Cloud Computing...I'm your guy.

Have been reading forums for a while, but it's the first time I have decided to make the jump.

Thank you all.

Apple unveils new TV box

Early this morning, Apple unveiled a smaller, cheaper version of Apple TV, which connects to a high-definition television and can show rented movies and TV shows from Apple's own service, plus photos on Flickr, YouTube clips and more.

The device lets people rent, not buy, content. Apple TV owners will pay 4.99 USD to rent first-run high-definition movies the day they come out on DVD. High-definition TV show rentals will be $0.99 USD.

Read the story here (http://www.theage.com.au/digital-life/hometech/apple-unveils-new-tv-box-20100902-14o2h.html) and here (http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/10/05/28/new_cloud_based_apple_tv_to_cost_99_run_on_iphone_os_4.html)

The device is reportedly based on iPhone OS 4, powered by Apple's custom-built A4 processor, and offering 1080P cloud-based streaming content -- all starting at just $99.
I think there is a possibility that we could run other iPhone OS4 apps on the device.

Seriously, Apple will rule the world one day...

The Cloud model helps businesses to become more responsive, reducing the time it takes to purchase and deploy new server and storage systems.

It also aids reaction to peaks and troughs. But would enterprises ever take this as a pay-off for systems ever being unavailable, as has happened with high-profile outages experienced by some of the Public Cloud providers?

I don't think so....

Recently I have lost the ability to delete an item from my favorites list. Up until now I could right click on a folder or item in a folder, click delete and it would be removed from favorites. Now if I click on a folder or item in the folder it throws me off of the internet and places me back on the desktop. Since I am on Verizon/Yahoo I contacted them and they say it is nothing that they did .I have been unable to find a fix. I am using XP and IE8.:help:
