All right I'm ready to install Windows 7 but here is my question.

I've put all my data (iTunes folder, pictures, docs, certain game saves, etc.) on a 500 GB WD external HD that I already had. The data will be put back after installation. I've bought 2 new internal WD 500GB sata drives and will put one in my rig and one as another external backup, I have the USB HD encloser. What I want to do is still use my existing 250 GB drive to put Windows 7 on and the new 500 GB drive to put all my data, games, basically anything I install after the OS.

My question is can I copy EVERYTHING on C: and D: onto the external hard drives so if ANYTHING happens to one of the drives I still have a "complete image" of my C: and D: drives that I can just "plug back in" to my PC? This way I don't have to re-install all of my programs? Is this do-able?

I hope I've explained myself clearly :help:.

:tiphat: Thanks as always!!! :tiphat:

Rampage ii gene esata

Anyone have the Rampage II Gene and are using the ESATA port? I am wondering if the hot plug and port multiplier functions work with the onboard JMB363 chip.

I currently have a SIL3132 host controller board and an Addonics AD5SAPM 5 port multiplier card in an external drive bay. I have a SATA Bluray drive on channel 0 and 4 hot plug hard drives in removable drive bays on the rest of the channels. I plug in the hard drives whenever I need them - recording movies, TV, etc, and am not running them all of the time.

Any info would be appreciated!

Any word on TRIM?

Has anyone heard anything on when W7 will start using TRIM? I guess when they launch it on the 22 of Oct there will be a update or something? What about the SSD drives themselves, I think Intel and OCZ and others said that there drives will be able to use TRIM? Any info would be Great thanks....

The Effect of SSD's on future Motherboards

As I look at todays motherboards I often see 6 or 8 SATA connections, and 10 or more USB ports. I think to myself what overkill!

Each time I try to add an additional drive to a system with 4 or more drives, I face the questions: 1) Where in the cage am I gonna install the drive? 2) Will I have an available port and will the data cable reach?, 3) Will I have to split a power cable?, 4) Will I overtax the Power supply and fry the Motherboard?

I tend to buy a greater capacity Hard drive each year. While cable management is a pain, *_it is normally the lack of ports and fear of overloading the powersupply that cause me to retire the old lower capacity drives_*

With their reduced electrical requirements, and their greater longevity, I would think that *_people would not retire an old SSD the same way they would retire an old Harddrive_*.

I could easily see a desktop containing a dozen or more SSD's

Thoughts anyone.
