Hi,

Firstly do windows updates do any actual good ? Seriously. Or does it just junk up the system even more ? Id appreciate your actual feedback from your experiences.

Secondly. If its really useful how do i save windows updates to my system for offline installation later on. I very often need to restore my system with norton ghost etc. And also first id like to see if the windows updates make my pc experience worse or better. And then if i need to i will restore my system and decide to go without the updates. If contrary results ensue then i will keep them safe for future reinstalls.

My windows is original OEM on my laptop. But can i get an offline updates installer that can be reused ? If so how and where ?

Thanks....

Hi,

Whats the cheapest method of buying windows xp ?

Ive seen ebay selling sealed boxes etc and mostly come in 3 flavours, OEM, Upgrade, Retail.

What are the pros and cons of each. Is it legal to buy retail versions in another country from where it was originally bought. Can i use it legally.

Also if i buy such a version when i install it on my system will it ask to contact MSoft. I mean if the previous owner has used it a lot and has reinstalled several times and had phone activations etc. What happens then. Can i install and use such a version without having to even go online. Most of the systems i use dont need to ever go on the internet. So where do i stand in this.

Thanks

Windows Embedded ? Basic Questions

What exactly is windows embedded ? I tried google and wikipedia etc, But they only explain in a vague manner. I basically assume its a hardcoded version of windows which comes on a chip. Is it available only for OEM device manufacturers or can one buy embedded XP for a personal machine / workstation ? Ive heard it somes in a componential version so we can strip off all that we done need in windows and only keep what we do need. Please correct me if my assumptions are wrong.

Can members here shed some more light on just the basics. What kind of MB does it need ? And what are its basic advantages ? Is it superfast in boot time ? And can one run normal windows based applications on a system like this ?

Thanks

Trying to reformat HD and reinstall XP

Hello all: Have a 3+ year old Dell Dimension desk top. Good work horse; have about 40GB of data, mostly pictures, 106GB total. Anyway, many problems lately, like Windows Install Service (gone), Adobe (suddenly stopped), can't get rid of certain directories, and on it goes. Can't download items (attachments). I give up, and want to reformat and start over. Have my disks, have read several articles on reformatting, can't boot from the Dell disk (yes, I have changed the BIOS). Have backed everything up on two external drives (routine action). Using Dell XP reinstallation disk, get to about step 3 and it wants my Product Key, which, when I enter it, it says is invalid????? Worked 3 years ago when my Dell HD crashed and I installed new one supplied by Dell. How do I get beyond this point?
