6800 Ultra OC results and question

I wanted to share my results with my new eVGA 6800 Ultra.

First of all, I am now able to stably OC at 450MHz and 1.2GHz, playing Doom3 for hours on end. 3dMark03 scores = 14001

The power requirement issue was the big issue. I have an Enermax 36A 550W supply. You really do need to have one, completely free HD power connector going to the PRIMARY connector on the 6800Ultra (the one closest to you when the card is inserted in the MB). For real OC you want a second, dedicated one for the secondary (I have a fan downstream, nothing more). Until I bit the bullet and rewired the power in this manner, I had lock-ups, freeze-ups, etc.

To OC you need to install CoolBits 2.0. It will integrate into the NVidia control panel and give you a host of OC options. Stability, I'm told, is increased by raising the regular (desktop) and performance (gaming) OC settings to the same level.

My temps after many hours of play remain around 80C on the card.

Issue: I don't seem to be able to use a new flash with anything but the original BIOS that eVGA shipped (the latest one).

I have access, for example, to the eVGA BIOS for the ultra extreme, but when I flash it (successfully), the screen goes dark after running through the BIOS screens at bootup. I have to switch to PCI video and reflash back to the original.

My two questions:
1. What IS the difference between the eVGA 6800 Ultra and Ultra Extreme, anyway - particularly because I'm running stably at 450/1.2
2. Any clue why I can successfully flash, but NOT see any image after BIOS (Windows bootup)????

Thanks!

-Adam

I believe the EVGA Ultra Extreme is already overclocked to 450mhz/1200mhz out of the box.

Yep,

I've given up on loading the other BIOS since I'm stable w/o artifacts at 450/1200, even after playing FarCry or Doom 3 for hours.
