| 9800 GX2 Review (& 790i Ultra) There are a few reviews out now for the 9800GX2, and I think this one is pretty awesome. The 9800GX2 looks strong coupled with this chipset, although I will probably opt for an X48 platform. I guess Crysis is a big driver for my upgrade, and here the GX2 is performing much faster than the Ultra. I wonder how long before the prices come down to something more reasonable?

| Re: 9800 GX2 Review (& 790i Ultra) Well, the current price here is about the same as 2 GTS's, but I'd recommend the GX2 for stability reasons over SLI. If you have SLI mainboard and already have a GTS or better then you might consider just getting another of the same card to run in SLI mode. The performance will be about the same as the GX2 for half the price. IF you have an Ultra or a GTX without SLI then it really just depends on how much you value the boost in performance the GX2 delivers versus the upgrade cost. (There is a nice performance boost) As always it is subjective and depends on your budget. [edit]: and if you're like me and have the budget and need to upgrade then, yeah, why not? Crysis loves those extra frames!

| Re: 9800 GX2 Review (& 790i Ultra) Some of the updates and upgrades to SLi and CrossFire are making multi-gpu solutions actually seem worthwhile these days, but for me it's still just a means of upgrading a machine later in life. Right now, the best dollar per performance ratio video card would likely be the 8800 GT. I suppose I used to buy the latest and greatest to squeeze out as much as I could but I've fallen far behind and I really have started to move towards the more affordable solutions that still yield a good amount of performance. I can't justify spending $600 on a video card--that's about what I spend on food for a semester lol.
