False Success x800pro > XT

I flashed my Sapphire x800pro with the Gigabyte flash and booted with XT clocks two days ago. Did not flash with ATI XT bios.

Looking in ATI Tool I see that AA and AF are off. When I turn AA on and check for artifacts, I get them after a few seconds. Temps are 78C.

Should I flash the ATI XT bios or lower clocks?

Tried 500/520 with AA 2x and still had artifact in ATI tool after a few seconds. With AA off XT speeds no artifact for ever.

Wolfgang, Those temps do not look very tempting to me. Do you have the old bios to flash back to by any chance? I know GPU's can handle higher temps then system CPU's, but 78C is getting really hot. Remember waterboils @ 100C. Also, what's the point of having an XT bios if the card won't even allow you to run AA or AF? Just my $0.02. Good luck man.

EDIT: I see you are new to these forums. First off let me welcome you to ABXzone.com it's a great place with a lot of knowledge and helpful assistance. One thing I suggest you do, so people can better help you out. Is to either put your system specs in your signature or your bio, to help you out easier.

One more question for you. What type of cooling do you have going in your case? These temps could be caused by inadiquate cooling of the/ to much case clutter not allowing good circulation of air in the case. A lot of people on here as do I, suggest having one intake (or more) in the front of the case and one exhaust fan at the back of the case. Also if you have an exhaust hole at the top of your case that can really help improve system temperatures as well.

Well, until you post a reply, that's about all I have for suggestions at the moment. Good luck with this issue, I hope you get it straightened out in a timely matter.

OK after Pro bios all is better with AA on x6 and AF x16 tri for both OpenGL and Direct3D, but clocks are at 475/450. Artifacting starts around 500 on each.

Temps are 45 no load and 75 under load. I have a Thermaltake XIII case with 7 fans and the cover removed. MBM has the motherboard at 42C and ambient at 25C.

I have read these cards will be ok near 80C

Gigabyte 8KNXP rev1 (F10 bios)
P4 2.6 @ 3.12 (240fsb)
Giel PC-4000 (2x512)
Sapphire X800Pro VIVO (16 pipes, Pro bios)
SATA Raptor 36Gig
Thermaltake XIII
and too much time to break a computer that works fine.

You're right, It seems to be the average temp for these cards to get about 70-75C underload.
