fx 5900 & Asus P4C800E-deluxe

Just wondered if you have heard of anyone having problems with the P4C800-E Deluxe and Gainward FX 5900 128mb Gold sample video card. When finished assembling the computer and started it for the first time i got vertical bars on the monitor. They disappear during post test but reappear on Asus Splash Screen and Windows 2000 install (GUI part). I went ahead and installed Win 2000 but when I installed the Gainward Drivers the system crashes on restart. I don't have any test sytems to test the individual parts so I'm not sure if its motherboard problem, video card problem or what. I reinstalled Win 2000 with vertical bars and all so I could get on Internet to search for help and send this reply. But I'm getting random crashes and memory dumps. Could it possibly be power supply related?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

ksjack7

Hey bro. Try rebooting in safe mode and remove the gainward drivers. Then restart normally, and grab the reference drivers from Nividia. I have an Asus FX5900 and use the nividia drivers only (from Nividia).

You can grab the latest from here.

Let me know how this works out.

I've had problems with the FX5900s and I will share how it all began with this thread located

HERE!

I think you have a defective board. You should check with Gainwards tech support.

Let us know how everything turns out.

Good Luck!

ksjack7 nice setup there.

Did you go into the BIOS and see what the setup was for your Video card?Like do you have it set to AGP instead of PCI?Is your AGP Apature size set above 16 to 64,128 or 256?You might try to turn off all power and pull the Video card and re-seat it.Does the Fan work properly so the Video Card isn't overheating?

You'll get it figured out

FX 5900 and ASUS P4C800-E Del Probs

Ok....I'm using my neighbors fx 5200 video card in my system...no vertical lines but I am getting random reboots, page faults and exception errors. We put my fx 5900 in my neighbors system...vertical lines.....would seem to me its an issue with the fx 5900 card. But that doesn't explain all my reboots, page faults, exception errors, etc. My new PS should be here this afternoon...Thermaltake 480 watt...that should rule out power supply issues. I'm wondering if memory problems...Hyper X 3200 1 gig matched set. This is my first experience with Hyper X. Not officially suported by ASUS. Any suggestions.

Hey...Thanks to Everyone for your Help!

Especially oasis....Thanks a lot.
