Is FX5900 Ultra overclock useless ?

Yesterday i ran the gunmetal benchmark, first pass without overlocking and second pass with o/c @ 500/950
results:

Benchmark 1 without o/c
Minimum frames per second 14.78 fps
Average frames per second 27.51 fps
Maximum frames per second 49.36 fps

Benchmark 1 with o/c
Minimum frames per second 15.00 fps
Average frames per second 29.12 fps
Maximum frames per second 53.05 fps

Benchmark 2 without o/c
Minimum frames per second 11.72 fps
Average frames per second 31.55 fps
Maximum frames per second 59.06 fps

Benchmark 2 with o/c
Minimum frames per second 11.94 fps
Average frames per second 32.16 fps
Maximum frames per second 63.87 fps

so with overclock the boost is not here, in fact the difference is small...

Humm, return to the original settings...

Make sure the mipmap is set to best performance, texture sharpening is off, image settings to high performance and both AA and Ani off for benchmarking.

To get the best results in games, set the FSAA to 4x, Ani to 8x, texture sharpening on, mipmap to high performance or blend, vertical sync to off (optional), AGP 8x (manually select if you can), side band addressing on, fast writes on/off (optional).

Let me know what you get. Gunmetal is quite wicked, no??

Its just a little feature which nvidia implemented in their BIOSes. If u oc to far the card just raises itself by like a few MHz instead. Happened to me with my FX 5600. If i set the core to 400Mhz it won't run at 400 but at more likely around 340~ or 350~. Also i've noticed i can't get the full potential out of the RAM. The max coolbits lets me oc to is 685. At 685 it don't artifact so i reckon i can reach 700 easily.

Strange isn't it
:confuse2:
