Re: GeForce 9800 GTX (D9E-20) to launch in Late March

What I mean is, with my 8800gts I can step up once to a newer card and thats it, I couldn't step up to a newer card and then step up again off that newer card to another....I can see there point otherwise you just buy one card and step up the rest of your life (that would e great though)...

thanks for the info!!!...that's perfect timing for me as I'm planning on doing a system upgrade later this week with the EVGA 8800GT...I'm only getting the 8800GT as a temporary card, as the card I really want to get is the 9800GTX

hopefully they will be available for purchase at the end of March and it won't just be a paper launch

Still based on the G92...? i was waiting something new with the Geforce 9 series. This means it's just an overclocked G92, i don't think we will see a big performance jump this way.

Maybe with 1 gig of DDR4 memory and higher clocks you'll be able to play Crysis at 1920x1200....LOL...its pretty sad a game thats been out for awhile now you have to wait to get a card that will let you play it at high res. with good fps!

I agree...I think the perfromance gains will be minimal...I think we have to wait for Nvidia and ATI's next generation cards (R700 & G100) for some major improvements...the people that bought the 8800 Ultra/GTX were lucky...they will have the top card for close to 2 years

I just finished watching a video review on the ATI Radeon 3870X2 video card. With the new CAT drivers, the 3870X2 now beats all nVidia cards on the market today. It even beats the Ultra in Crysis now. Or as the video reviewer said "ATI has taken the crown back."

read this review instead...the 8800GTS/GTX still performs better or very close to the 3870X2 in most benchmarks...the 8800GT/GTS is the better buy right now...ATI's latest flagship card makes it more competitive but the 8800 Ultra is still the fastest card with the GTS/GT very close in performance to ATI's latest dual GPU offering especially when considering the price/performance ratio

Well, per the video review, Oblivion give 69 FPS in 1680 x 1050 (which is what most wide screen monitors are) with the 3870X2 while the fastest nVidia card gives 55 FPS in 1680 x 1050 (in Shivering Isles). In Crysis, with all turned to high, the 3870X2 gives 31 FPS while the Ultra gives 30 FPS (the other nVidia cards give 28 FPS) in 1680 x 1050.

That's what caught my attention.

Re: GeForce 9800 GTX (D9E-20) to launch in Late March

Here soon is the time to buy an 8800GTS 512 for me! Then I'll just step up to the 9800.

I guess they decided to just forego the 8900 series?
