| GF4 Ti4200 vs. GF FX 5600 Hi there! A friend of mine bought himself a Laptop, so he borrowed me his Geforce FX till he can sell his "old" PC. The card i had befrore (and still have now) is a Geforce 4 Ti 4200 64 MB from MSI, the card i borrowed (and returned very quick) is a Geforce FX 5600 256 MB from ASUS. The first thing i noticed was the noise ("Tower control, this is sea harrier 1, engines at full power, waiting for start clearance"), even my super silent case can´t do anything against that. Then i ran some benchmarks, 3dmark 2003 at first. Wow, now i can run more test and i get about 1000 points more (because of the "new" tests, i only get few frames more). Then i ran Aquamark3, again more points (about 2000) but not that more fps. Then 3Dmark01 an GLexcess. Wow, i lost 2000 points in 3Dmark and serveral hundred in GLexcess (only in GLexcess your able to compare your with older test results) Maybe i could see some effects with the GF FX in tomorrows games i can´t see with the Ti4200, but with the games i own now, i get more fps with the Ti4200. So i gave back the FX and will use my GF4 as long as i use my CUSL2-C. Does the FX 5900 perform better with "old" benchmarks? Or do i pay hundreds of Euros to see some CineFX-Hexagonalbuffered-Multilightnig-vertexshaded-pixelfiltered-anisotropicaligned-boobs hanging out of the screen in a demo i can download from Nvidia and get low frame rates in "older"(released last month) games that don´t use this "Special effects" (that will be used in games that will lbe released within the next year, maybe, if they are not delayed)?? | Both cards cost more then i want to spend right now for my computer. Also i would like to test them to see if i would really game some fps. I have no use for eye candy when i have to look at it with 5 fps. Dere Dru |

| Stick with ur 4200 the FX 5600 isnt that much better. Playing SWG I have my ti-4200 128MB AGP4X and a friend upgraded to a 5600 ultra and he does maybe 2 fps faster than my card, not worth it imo, wait until u have enuff for an ATI, right now they are kings and the FX upgrade is not much of an improvement to a GF4 ti series even in a DX9 game. |
