Graphics card not receiving sufficient power?

I load xp pro today to try sp3 and i installed nvidia drivers for my video card and im getting this error.

To protect your hardware from potential damage or causing a potential system lockup, the graphics processor has lowered its performance to a level that allows continued safe operations.

Re: Graphics card not receiving sufficient power?

I only get this error in xp with nvidia drivers, in vista i never got this error. I had a 7950GT video card before i replaced it with the 7800GT. I Would think my enermax 550watt would be enough for this card and my quad cpu.

Re: Graphics card not receiving sufficient power?

Ye. I don't think it's the PSU for sure. Hmmmmmm, I'll try to research a little since I can't sleep. (again).

Requires more investigation but:
Perhaps it speaks of selecting a refresh rate which won't burn out your monitor/panel.

I dont think you can change the refresh rate on LCD monitors.

Re: Graphics card not receiving sufficient power?

Unless your PS or vid card is co-incidentally playing up at the same time you decided to install Xp then I think this could be a vid card driver issue. Try uninstalling them and re-install. Do you have driver cleaner so you can completely remove the old drivers?

(I'm assuming you already checked your power connectors are all plugged in properly).

I went from the latest drivers and went to some older ones. What gets me is vista doesnt say anything.

I was thinking in lines of the Graphics card lowering the refresh rate.
Any monitor LCD or otherwise is basically the slave of the graphics card.
If the card says paint the screen 100 times a sec, the LCD will try and burn out.

Thus your graphics card will lower its performance (refresh rate) in order to save your monitor.

Re: Graphics card not receiving sufficient power?

I took my video card out and the power plug was in just about all the way. So i heated up the connector on the video card pushed in the power cable all the way and let it cool down. Put everything back in and the error is gone for now.
