Help! Anyone else have this problem?

Gentlemen,
I installed the Arctic Cooling NV 5 on my BFG 6800 GT last week (I was very drunk at the time). I didn't notice that for some reason the fan is spinning the wrong way and so it isn't blowing the air over the HS and out thru the back of the case - it is just blowing air down in the case! WTH did I do wrong? My hardware is in the sig below. It appears there is only one way to hook up the power plug and it looks right to me. Dunno...

That's the best way to do it. I love the day after when you are like ***? How did I do that?

Sorry, don't know how to help, very funny though. Maybe the fan was put on upside down?

I'd check to make SURE there is only one way that power plug is going in and to make sure in your drunken state you didn't force it the wrong way. And being drunk isn't always the way to work on computers! :P I'm pretty sure I threw out my Pentium 4 3.2C (Northwood) chip while I was drunk because it "caused me so many problems." I went looking for it to RMA it the other day and I've searched high and low and cannot find it anywhere.

Please continue the investigation...

Pretty funny Briton - but I actually do more *focused* work when lit up like I was. No - it appears that I plugged it in the correct way and yet the fan is spinning the wrong way and there isn't any obvious reason for it. Thanks anyways - and yes fischy - there are many questions surfacing now. Moving on...

You can always just reverse the wires.

"Reverse the wires"? I was hoping to do everything according to spec from the vendors. I'll keep looking into it - but thanks for the suggestions and keep the thread alive!

Yeah, you could simply cut the wires and reverse them. That would probably work.

Exclamation How many times do I have to say this.

YOU CANNOT REVERSE POLARITY ON BRUSHLESS FANS. That includes almost every computer fan, they have little semiconductors in them that are sensitive to polarity. There is no easy way to make one spin backwards. They all spin one way and that's it, you plug it in backwards and it can damage it. Apparently they aren't as sensitive to this as they used to be because people have had them survive. So, if your fan is indeed spinning the wrong way, the fan is the problem. Arctic cooling has a lot of people complaining of this very issue, and they say that it's the way it's supposed to be. Personally I think they screwed up and they don't want to deal with the consequences.

This is not good news! The one I had on my 9800 was correct and there is no question in my mind that my case ran cooler as a result of that hot air being piped out the back - not to mention how much more effective the heatsink will be if the air is actually blown over it rather than off to the side. Is Arctic Cooling entertaining returns on these? I bought mine from Newegg and maybe they will switch it out?

Are you sure its running backwards? The static pressure caused by the fan sometimes makes it feel like air is blowing one way when it really isnt. I just checked mine and it feels like its blowing into the case, but it isnt. Hot air is exausting out the back, I double checked with a small strip of paper, it was being pulled in for sure.
