Hosed ATI drivers & "1394 ARP Client Protocol"???

I hosed my ATI drivers somehow. Maybe it was when I designated InterVideo WinDVD to open ATI video files. I dunno'.....

I noticed the problem when ATI TV function wouldn't work. Went into Device Manager and sure enough the WDM driver was gone, yellow exclamation point. Under non plug and play drivers there was one next to "1394 ARP Client Protocol" too.

I foolishly tried reinstalling the WDM driver. Ended up uninstalling all ATI software (except for ATI Control Panel which mysteriously wouldn't uninstall) and reinstalling from the installation CD (guess I over wrote that ATI Control Panel).

Then I updated to Cat. 3.6 drivers. All seems to be well now.

But "1394 ARP Client Protocol" still has a problem in Device Manager.

I tried uninstalling and restarting per the troubleshooter's directions. I searched M$ knowledge base but couldn't find any matches.

What did I hose along with the ATI drivers?

Can anyone please tell me what this non plug and play device is? And how do I fix it?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

I'd say it has something to do with your firewire port.

Newer versions of Windows have a feature that allows you to use firewire ports as network interfaces. ARP (Address resolution Protocol) refers to a protocol that resolves IP addresses to MAC addresses and vice versa. I've never seen this driver before, but from it's name, I'd say that it's a virtual driver used to process requsts through this protocol. I'd doubt that you'd experience problems with this "device" unless you were using your firewire port for networking, but if you want to try to fix it, try removing the driver from device manager, restart your computer, and see if windows re-detects it. If that doesn't work, you may need to remove any drivers for your firewire ports, as well as any 1394 net adapters located under netwrok connections, and re-install them.

Thanks Novakain

I've tried removing the driver from device manager, restarting and Windows isn't redetecting it.

Not using firewire for networking.

I'll try removing and reinstalling the drivers.

You're right Novakain

I went to Start/Connect To/Show all connections and disabled both 1394 connections. Then went into Device Manager. Uninstalled 1394 ARP Client Protocol under non plug and play drivers again. Uninstalled both 1394 adapters under Network Adapters.

Restarted.

Windows redetected 1394 Network Adapter and 1394 Network Adapter #2 under Network Adapters in Device Manager.
1394 ARP Client Protocol is no longer listed under Non Plug and Play Drivers.

No more little yellow exclamation points in Device Manager.
