| Re: Sapphire HD 4850 cards. The performance of the 4850 is well enough for me, ditto the power required. The Toxic version will have faster clocks though which will push performance by a good margin. A stock-clocked HD 4850 would be sufficient but I'll take the added speed. Hopefully NE won't gouge the buyer too much when this card comes out. Hoping for $30 more over regular HD 4850's. Also hope the Toxic has a red PCB but I doubt it. Color is critical.

| Re: Sapphire HD 4850 cards. The question I have is how does the HDMI work by using an HDMI to DVI adapter. It must change the output on the board somehow when this adapter is used. I want to get an HDMI cable for better quality. Not surprisingly, all the HD 48xx reviews mention FPS, FPS, FPS but not HDMI support or quality, ony FPS(FPS). ATI Radeon 4800 launch details

You won't get better quality going from DVI to hdmi, only you get the sound with hdmi.....dvi and hdmi are all digital no difference, now you might get better with hdmi 1.3, not really up on that new spec, I know you have to get the better hdmi 1.3 cable to receive the benefits of the new specs.....by the way go to monoprice for any cables !

| Re: Sapphire HD 4850 cards. I am aware of what HDMI has but the link I posted above (couple of times) describes better color but is not detailed. """The Radeon 4800 series also includes 7.1 channel-via-HDMI support and color output also got a “significant” boost, our sources said. We were unable to confirm HDMI 1.3 support, but we would not be surprised if that in fact is the case. The Unified Video Decoder is now in generation 2 and is called "UVD2".""" On AMD's site a feature list says "HDMI - Enjoy the latest audio technologies using HDMI with 7.1 digital surround sound support. Also, xvYCC support allows the user to enjoy a wider range of color when connected to a capable HDTV." This doesn't look like it applies to me so I will stick with the DVI cable. Also, those DVI to HDMI adapters aren't cheap (I've seen them over $30) so hold on to the one you get.

| Re: Sapphire HD 4850 cards. You may also need to use VISTA as the OS to take advantage of HDMI. I had no luck getting sound from HDMI although video was good with XP. It could very well be that the drivers for XP are still broken. However, after a VISTA install and installing the HDMI drivers, I was able to adjust settings for HDMI.

| Re: Sapphire HD 4850 cards. If your monitor or tv has hdmi1.3 support you'll get better colours over HDMI, and you also should be able to use longer cables (HDMI has higher voltage). Greetings Dru

| Re: Sapphire HD 4850 cards. I have a good monitor> Dell2408FWP that says it does HDMI. You can actually hook up your speakers to the audio out on the monitor if you use the HDMI input. Anyway, I guess I will buy a HDMI cable and give it a go w/Vista. Also you can buy a DVI to HDMI cable and forgo using the adapter with the new ATI cards.
