actually this hd3850 agp may be the last one, but it serves me well, and the sapphire is working good on cats now, so it may do nice for awhile, with my good ol' gigabyte mobo...

He bajo, can you run Aquamark with your rig?

After the latest Futuremark patch aquamark is the only benchmark that isn't running with my HD3850 AGP.

Greetings

Dru

Re: Sapphire HD3850 AGP 512MB is IN.. the Good & the Bad...!

Drufuss, You were asking for some benchmarks... here are some I prepared earlier...http to //forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=57401&highlight=3850agp

I have a problem with my Conroe865PE. Since I moved to a Zalman 600W PSU, I can not longer get into 3D mode on either my 3850AGP or even my X800SE.

Did you have an voltage tweaking issues with the Conroe865PE. I wonder if my earlier BeQuiet! "overvolted" a bit and was therefore stable, and the new Zalman is "accurate" volts are too low for the Conroe865PE?

Any thoughts?

Re: Sapphire HD3850 AGP 512MB is IN.. the Good & the Bad...!

Well, hello and welcome lemonadesoda!

I have a BeQuiet PSU in my rig, as may have already read in my profile, and i can't report any problems related to voltage problems, imho.
Will try to get some measuremts, voltage readings from diff. monitoring tools.
When i connected the HD3850AGP i had some doubts, the card has an 8 pin socket, but the 6 pin plug that this psu has does fit in and seems to provide all the card needs.

Greetings

Dru

Re: Sapphire HD3850 AGP 512MB is IN.. the Good & the Bad...!

Just reporting back. The system IS WORKING now. What changes? Only this:

1./ Full Drivercleaner on system
2./ Installation of X800, using 8.4 hotfix
3./ Used it a while, then thought I'd try the HD3850 again
4./ HD3850 works!

Conclusion: either bad hardware profile in registry that drivercleaner fixed, or the 8.4 hotfix solved the problem!

Re: Sapphire HD3850 AGP 512MB is IN.. the Good & the Bad...!

I was looking to upgrade my son's x1950pro agp and just found this review on the HD3850 ...

Fudzilla - PowerColor's HD 3850 AGP benched

It's obvious that this card is better than the previous AGP king, the X1950 Pro. The question is, does its superior performance justify the higher price? The Powercolor HD 3850 512MB PCS AGP retails at around €150, while the X1950 Pro with 512MB of memory sells for about €130. The price difference can be justified, not only by superior performance, but by DX10.1 support, multimedia capabilities, HDMI and much more.

On the other hand, if you already own a X1950 Pro, the upgrade can't be easily justified. The X1950 Pro is doing a great job against HD 3850, and the price is close. If you have some older card, and you want to refresh you system so you can play some games at a decent resolution, then the HD 3850 is just the card for you. It is the king of the AGP hill.

Is there a faster agp card available ?

Re: Sapphire HD3850 AGP 512MB is IN.. the Good & the Bad...!

AGP is a dying standard, so I guess it would be wise to make the switch to PCIe. The card bajo got is one of the handful that some manufacturers make to serve a niche market. I don't see the 4800 series being manufactured in an AGP flavor though ... I might be wrong too.
