SLI & Crossfire question

Looking to put together a new barebones system. See a lot of the SLI and Crossfire graphic cards offered. The question is can I run just one Radeon x1650 XT Crossfire card with the ASus M2r32 MVP or do you have to hook up two cards if you have a Crossfire supported MB? If you can run just one card will that negatively affect the MB performance in any way?

Re: SLI & Crossfire question

Used to be you had to have one regular card and one that only works only for Xfire. They have changed this to be working with 2 of the same cards that can also both be used individualy. As far as the mainboard goes it makes no difference to it whether you use 2 or 1 especially with a 32 lane board (like that one) one or both will use a full 16x. personally I haven't seen any real time difference with 2 cards sharing 16 lanes. In other words yes, no, and no.
