Ok, after one hour I am getting some reddish striping again on web sites and the desktop when nothing is even open.

Looks like the monitor is biting the dust here.

Watch Out!! A Spammer! He's trying to sell you something.

(Pardon me SRTDodge05, i couldn't help it.)
Okay, this was a joke!

Depending on the budget you have to spend, your current pc hardware, the time you think to use all this before upgrade furhter you should now choose your LCD-screen.

Greetings

Dru

Looking at the Samsung 22" 226BW.

Is that one a decent LCD?

Before deciding, you'll want to read the following review:

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/oth...22inch_12.html

Also, you'll want to consider carefully whether to get a TN panel type, or another technology such as S-PVA. Remarkably, most LCD advertising and many reviews don't even address this distinction, which is profoundly important. TN panels (which are the most common, and are used in nearly all laptops), are cheaper and give the fastest response times and the least ghosting (obviously important for gaming). S-PVA and similar panels are slower and more expensive, but are far better in terms of viewing angle coverage, contrast, and color accuracy.

Try to find a review at xbitlabs.com for any LCD monitor you are considering -- their reviews always indicate the panel technology which is used.

I have been extremely happy with Samsung S-PVA monitors, such as the 19 inch model 971P, but I am not a gamer and for me picture quality is more important than response time.

Regards,
-- Al

OK, now I am getting frustrated and confused.

Picked up a Samsung 2232BW.
Set it up. Reinstalled my Radeon 9800.

All heII broke loose after a few minutes.
Orange streaking/banding down the page and then terrible splotching and the resolution changed to 640X480 and I got an error message about the ati2dvag display driver.
System locked up.

Hmm........

I then put back in the old Radeon 7000. It at least does not lock up.

It is doing what it did before. Streaking and flashing orange and white lines on the page.

Maybe both video cards are bad.
Maybe the Sony monitor is fine.
Maybe the AGP slot/bus is screwy but I have never seen that.

I guess the next thing to try is a new AGP video card.
If it is still doing this then I have a mobo issue is my guess.
Mobo is about a year old and everything is new except the video card and monitor.

Did a quick search on the "ati2dvag display driver" error.

Unreal. Can mean anything from corrupted drivers to bad video card, to certain spyware infections, etc.

A regular catch all issue and no typical known cause.

I reinstalled the ATI drivers and still have the same problems.

I do run AVG virus daily so no issues there.

Ran a spyware detection and removal and only found the typical cookies in my wife's browser.
Hard to believe this could all be corrupted drivers caused by Spyware.

AT this point-I would say it is safe to say it is not a monitor issue.
I do kind of like this 22" Samsung, but was quite happy with the Trinitron until this and would be fine going back to it.

Any ideas are welcome.

Think maybe I should try a different video card than the two I have here?

Take both your monitors and go visit a friend. Plug them into his system and verify that the monitors are working fine that way. Then plug your video cards in to your friends system and test them. Now you will know if it's the monitors or video cards. Or something else. (I assume you have only one computer.)

You are saying that your new Samsung monitor displays the streaking and so do both vid cards? Sounds like the problem is not going to be with the monitors or vid cards, but possibly an issue with some on board component, travelers suggestion would help to prove that.

So I also suggest that you check the BIOS and make sure the system is not being overclocked. Also make sure that you are plugging the AGP cards in properly, sometimes they are not seated properly even tho they seem to be.

Try the fix described in post number 9 of this thread:

A7M266: ati2dvag.dll infinite loop. Hopeless?

It immediately resolved the same symptoms you are describing, on my Sager 8886V laptop which uses an ATI Mobility Radeon 9000, with no side-effects whatsoever. As you will see, it also resolved these symptoms on a number of other people's systems that use various ATI graphics cards.
