Wow ... that's mad expensive ... there was a time when I knew nothing about money and economics. Back then my fits and tantrums bore fruit, and I usually got away with having the latest and greatest hardware in my system. Now that things have changed considerably, I don't know if I could spend a fortune to have a few more fps!

sure, I first became aware of the issue in this article. It is not the 9800gx2, but SLI / crossfire in general.

Then I noticed on the evga forums, people were complaining about it. Here is a good thread.:

On this thread, this guys claims that evga acknowledged the microstuttering at high resolutions:
9800GX2 Stutter (Quad SLI)

There are tons of threads throughout the web about it, but it is not discussed by a lot by reviewers. google "9800gx2 stutter" and it will bring up lots of stuff. For official reviews, some reviewers have found it when using 2 9800gx2's (quad).

Hardocp mentioned they got some stutters in higher resolutions then with 8800gtx's, presumably due to bandwidth.

a poster on hardocp's forums experiences it, and thinks it is because of memory issues and bridge chip:

Of course, other users claim they don't experience it. Some have said it was fixed with drivers. So there is a chance you won't get it - I just thought people should be aware of the issue. Perhaps instead of "well documented" I should have used another term - "possible but well complained about stuttering"

I don't say I will buy it

If its 295 euro I will think it over, for now it will be a 4780 I think

Its 403 euro now, going the right direction

Its time we (customers) are the one who benefits...those 8800GTX prices were insane those days, ATI shows it can be a lot cheaper

Good price drop yes but the thing is if you are looking for raw FPS performance the ATI 4870x2 is coming next month and it should smoke this card for less than the above price. The price of the GTX series could/should go down even more ATT.

Yes, competitive markets are the best. More competition fosters lower prices and firms act as price takers. That's great news for us consumers!

Oh, my...let's respond to that, shall we?

You've spent over $650 on a video card who's most advanced features you can't use, you being a DirectX9 gamer and all.

Several people here - myself included - could easily have purchased a GTX 280. In my case I didn't think it was a smart decision because the engineering didn't impress me at the asking price.

Your assertion that people don't buy the card because they "can't comfortably afford to buy one" assumes much and lumps everyone into a single group. That's just arrogant on so many levels.

And...I, too, am currently enjoying games now. I played Half-Life 2: Episode 2 this morning and enjoyed it. I finished BioShock yesterday and enjoyed it (well, everything except the unimaginative ending).
I run all games at 1680x1050 (my monitor's native rez) with all graphics settings on "high", which is pretty enjoyable.

All that being said, I'm glad you're enjoying your purchase. Still, if it were me and I'd seen the card I just bought two weeks ago plummet in price to the tune of almost two hundred dollars ($460 for an MSI version at NewEgg) I'd be a bit perturbed. That's just not something I'd feel comfortable about.
