Intel Virtualization Forum - post your questions here

I discovered that Intel VT technology has far reaching impacts in many areas:

There are three Intel VT components:
VT-x (also VT-i for Itanium) for Intel 32 bit and Intel 64 bit processor architecture (processor related). Includes Intel's EPT (Extended Page Tables)
VT-d - Intel VT for Directed I/O (chipset related).
VT-c - Intel VT for Connectivity (device related). Includes Intel® I/OAT for virtualization (which again includes Intel QuickData Technology), Single Root I/O Virtualization (SR-IOV) for PCI-e devices and VMDq (Virtual Machine Device Queues) for NICs.

Following have to support VT to succesfully implement VT:
processor
chipset
BIOS
hypervisor
PCI-e
NIC
Guest OS (e.g. hardware drivers for NICs)
and may be sometimes application software?!

Desktop PCs with a Bearlake-Q = Intel Q35 chipset are supporting VT-x and VT-d (not sure about VT-c, if required at all).
All servers with the Seaburg = Intel 5400 chipset are supporting VT-x and VT-d (not sure about VT-c, if required at all). Servers with the Intel 5000p chipset do NOT support VT-d.

I found a forum which may be helpful in finding an anwer on questions in all those areas.
