Batch file to turn off Aero

Does anyone know how to write a batch file for turning Aero on and off?
The reason I'm asking is Crysis won't run under DX10 and Aero and it's a pain turning it off before I play..

Re: Batch file to turn off Aero

Easy way to do it, is right click on the shortcut for Crysis, select properties, then click the compatibility tab, and on the compatibility tab, click Disable Visual Themes, and then click the apply button. Doing this shuts off the Aero Theme, when you start a game on Vista.

This is part of the reason people are having trouble getting games to run on Vista, is that they refuse to do this simple step to ensure their games will work on Vista.

Interesting,
I read that before and tried it, but it didn't work.
I just went back there and I put a check in "disable desktop composition" as well...Now it's working

Easily Disable Vista's Aero Before Running an Application (Such as a Video Game) :: the How-To Geek

This site says to disable composition. Tho you may want to poke around and check out your drivers.

Re: Batch file to turn off Aero

Thanx for the replies guys, but I've tried every combination available in the properties of the shortcut and sometimes after changing them it works once, but once only.
I have UAC turned off, I've tried running as an administrator as well.
The game works great if I turn off Aero manually (this is on a CD2 6750 , P35 Mobo, 4 gigs of OCZ and an HD3870 512mg.)
I'm almost finished the game, but would sure like to know if there's a way to choose the scheme using the command line in case I run into this again.

********Edit***** I'm running the latest V64 drivers from ATI's site

Disabling Visual Themes on the compatibility tab for a game is what generally disable's Aero.

A friend of mine who has Crysis and the latest patches for it told me, that this game is still pretty buggy. I'm assuming, you ran head long in to a bug. He even told me, that someone at, I think it was NASA tried running the game, and it crashed within four minutes, and that was some pretty highend hardware.

I don't know if Aero can be turned off using a command line option.

Try this.....

don't turn off Aero...

Just turn off Transparency....

I have that normally turned off and I never have problems with Crysis----and my hardware is semi similar to yours

but I haven't played it since the release of SP1

Re: Batch file to turn off Aero

I've finished the single player and I'm just dicking around with a couple of modded maps at this point, funny thing is, once you're used to Aero everything just seems so flat without it..
I'll give the transparency thing a go though...
thanx

Re: Batch file to turn off Aero

OK, I found the cure

Right click on the shortcut and hit properties.
Add this after the last quotes, make a space first before the plus sign
+r_Fullscreen 1

If for some reason that doesn't work, alt-enter toggles the full-screen mode!

Re: Batch file to turn off Aero

Why not just change it to Vista Basic in Preferences? Maybe I don't understand fully what you want to do.

Re: Batch file to turn off Aero

That's what I've been doing till now and it's a pain in the butt, 7 mouse clicks turning it on or off...
Besides, it was bugging me and I knew there had to be a fix for it.
