| Startup extreme slow + computer wont stop working. Hey there! ATM I experience real slow startup (even after reducing the number of processes started with the computer and defraging it). Also, the computer just keeps on working, even if I just let it idle on desktop, I fear something might not be right, any ideas?

Other than the obvious, (malware and virii) a good place to look if it takes an exceptionally long time to post (before windows starts) is your hard drive and optical drive cables... When they go bad the computer will grind along for what seem like forever trying to determine what drives are in it.

| Re: Startup extreme slow + computer wont stop working. Disable Indexing and see if that helps. Now that I think of it, I had that problem long ago. Do you have all the Vista updates? Oh, they had an update before SP1. Do you have SP1? If not, get it. It is like a whole new installation. Disable Indexing anyway.
