Vista instalation issues

Something tells me I would be better off abandoning this project right now since it is already proving to be more pain then gain but not quite ready to give up yet. I went to install Vista to a seperate drive then my raid array. At first I left everything plugged, booted from the burned 32bit Vista dvd and went all the way to the format screen just to see no drives. I expected not to see the array since I hadn't loaded any raid drivers but there was no sign of the 300g segate either. So I cancled out, shut down, disconnected the RAID drives and tried again with the same results. Blank screen where you choose which drive to format. What am I doing wrong here? My segate shows up as being on IDE channel 4 in the bios which I thought was kinda weird since it's a serial drive. Any suggestions would be helpful thanks
