Vista Service Pack 1

For thos interested in getting their hands on the Vista Service Pack here's a direct download link, which when clicked on will download it direct from Microsoft in the form of an ISO, which can be burned to a DVD. I came across this on another forum.

http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...-kb3aik_en.iso

I downloaded this sucker myself.

Re: Vista Service Pack 1

Thanx!
It's downloading at 600kb/sec, but I'm a little concerned about the size of it, I was to the understanding that it would be around 350mg for the 5 language pack and 550 for the world pack.. This is around 1.2 g
I wonder if there are 2 versions in the iso, one for 32 bit and a 64?

Re: Vista Service Pack 1

It has 32bit and 64 bit versions in it.

I ended up getting the actual service pack from the following website, and it is not a release candiate, as I couldn't figure out how to install it from the ISO.

Download Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) Upgrade - WinVistaForums.com

On the website I linked to, there are two download links One is for the 32bit version and the other is for the 64bit version.

I'm off to bed, as I took an hour to install the 64bit version of the service pack.

Looks like that link is gone.

STATUS UPDATE:
Unfortunately, there is not enough bandwidth to host the files. We have permanently removed the links to these files until further notice.

Nuts, the second link is gone. I noticed that this morning. I was lucky enough to download the Service Pack from the second link last night.

That first link is an automated install routine for IT Professionals, which I never could figure out, but I was lucky enough to download it from the second link I provided, before they took the files down, stating that they didn't have enough bandwidth on the second link.

OK, I just realized that.. Looks like a tool for creating a PE enviroment for imaging installs and deploying them across a network, It may be a valuable tool after all, considering SP1 reportedly isn't slipstreamable and it may be a while before one can get his hands on an SP1 install disc..

Just out of curiosity, check your version of DX10, users on the winvista forums are reporting that it doesn't have 10.1 and it's likely a repackaged RC2 version.

One of the people that runs that has confirmation that is the RTM version, but sadly the links were taken down, claiming they don't have enough bandwidth.

Why haven't they made a torrent of it?

Microsoft didn't invent BitTorrent, so it doesn't exist as far as they're concerned. There's been talk for years about a supposed "BitTorrent-killer" from MS, but I don't know if it's been released.

Also: it's hard to explicitly validate the origin of a file that's shared through BitTorrent. Which means Microsoft would have to rely on people validating the file using a SHA-1 or MD5 checksum posted on some Microsoft web page. One could argue that people that use torrents know how to do that, but if they can't take that for granted that means it's a "bad" distribution system for Microsoft.

Re: Vista Service Pack 1

Still RC though.. I've been looking around the torrent sites and there's a bunch out there claiming to be the RTM but they all have the same filename as RC refresh2....KB936330-X86
I'm thinking the real thing is at least going to have it's own filename.
