My guess is yes since it asked for them after my install on an IDE drive...
You didn't get redirected, the link I posted was for anti virus.

unlike XP x64, I think with Vista it will be better to use the 64 bit version...Vista was designed to be 64 bit and then downscaled to 32, unlike XP which was 32 bit native and then upscaled to 64

most current hardware has Vista beta drivers available so I think it's worth giving it a shot

I was getting that 14mb file as well, till i changed download managers. But they are capping people at 500k right now ): still 2hrs isn't bad.

try a different browser or download manager

Huh that is a thought and not like it would be my primary OS. I have a drive that I was supposed to RMA to tiger direct after I found it cheaper on newegg. I would need it to do this. I am looking at the unopened box now with bad intent lol.

Thanks Sorrow I will try a different browser.

ms mail eh?

seeing as your still fairly clean on the install, how much mem is it using?

the last beta 2 pre-release i tried used 800mb or so on my box... i think its scaling though cause a friend has a laptop and it only used 200mb or so

It appears that windows defender did indeed install in spite of the error message....

Question. I have a 300g storage drive that I intend to load vista on. As it is now it is designated "I" which is fine for what it is now but if I format it and load Vista on it is it going to screw something up being "I" instead of "C" or worse conflict with my existing "C" array? I guess I'm just asking for any tips and anything I should watch out for. I was tempted to use a new drive but I really can't afford it.

I unplugged my C: array and used an IDE drive I had, I hooked up my IDE data drive after installing Vista....If it all works out ok, I'll do an install on the array later
