HELP -- Posts Are Disappearing & Re-appearing From "New Posts" and "Today's Posts"

Since yesterday afternoon several posts have at times failed to appear in the "New Posts" and "Todays Posts" listings, and then re-appeared a few minutes later, and then disappeared and re-appeared again and again.

This thread is one example: http://www.abxzone.com/forums/f16/8g...gb-115401.html

The threads/posts have NOT disappeared from the listings in their respective sub-forum, and they have NOT disappeared from the "Recent Posts" column on the left-hand side of the home page. The problem appears to be confined to the "New Posts" and "Today's Posts" links, which unfortunately are what most people use to find recent posts.

Thanks!

Not sure if it's related, but the "18 Things about Windows 7" post that polonyc2 put up on the front page yesterday is gone.

That is unrelated.

BTW, to the admins, this thread itself is now one of those that is disappearing and reappearing in "Today's Posts" and "New Posts."

I noticed this starting yesterday as well...for some reason it looked like it only did not show my recent posts while showing everyone else's...also the 'New Posts' button works fine when using it from the 'Home' page but it doesn't work properly when using it from anywhere else

Im not sure I fully understand the issue, but I do see one issue that may be causing some confusion though. The 'New Posts' link on the frontpage actually links to the daily posts search functionality, whereas the 'New Posts' link on the forum links to the new posts search functionality:

hxxp://www.abxzone.com/forums/search.php?do=getdaily (frontpage)
vs
hxxp://www.abxzone.com/forums/search.php?do=getnew (forum)

do=getdaily -- this will get all posts that happen today
do=getnew -- this will get all posts that are new to a thread since you last viewed it

do=getnew might be what is actually causing the confusion, because once you go and view the thread, the results will be updated and that post (thread actually) will disappear. Once there is a new post in the same thread, the results will be updated and appear as if the post (thread actually) has reappeared.

We can easily change the link on the frontpage if that is preferred (or vice versa). Let me know if I am on the right track with this assessment.

thanks for the explanation...I understand how it works now...it caused confusion because previously the 'New Posts' button (both on the Front Page and the forum links) linked to the do=getdaily command...now they are linked to separate commands

I don't know how the majority of members feel but I prefer them all linking to the same place (do=getdaily command)...but it's not that big of a deal...whatever the majority says is fine

Re: HELP -- Posts Are Disappearing & Re-appearing From "New Posts" and "Today's Posts

Yes, thanks very much for the explanation, Louis.

I very much agree with Polonyc2's preference that it be changed to function the way it did just before this thread was started, which would be to have all of the "new posts" links return the getdaily results.

Also, as I had noted earlier in this thread, the problem was also present in the "today's posts" link under "quick links" on the forums page. I'm not sure what the "do=" was for that previously, but similarly to "new posts" I would suggest that it be revised such that posts do not disappear and reappear in the listings it returns.

Thanks very much!

Regards,
-- Al

I agree with Poly...

Both the same do=getdaily command.....

If I had my druthers...

but I also agree with Poly that I can go with whatever the group decides....

I remember when I was gone for a week or two, I could press a button called "Get New Posts" and all the posts that were made that I missed for the entire two weeks I was gone would show up on a list. It was keyed to the time of your last visit to the Forums which is stored somewhere. That was great! At the click of a buttom I could completely catch up. Without it I would have missed a lot.

I think there was also a button that was labled: "Get Today's Posts" that would list all posts made in only the past 24 hours.

Here's the image of it. (from October 2004)

Look on the right at the links box. This box had very useful links in it. If I wasn't logged in, it would show the two lines needed for user name and password for log in. Also notice the convenient UserCP link at the top of the front page.

'Today's Post' is still listed...it's under the 'Quick Links' button...the User CP is also still available now...but it's not available on the Front Page...to see them you have to be in the forum areas

That's my whole point!

If ABX Front Page loads as a home page then all links desired should be there with no further effort required. There they all are on the front page of old. Some would call it a great well thought out all inclusive very useful convenience supplied by the designers of the front page. And I and others complimented CJ and company when they did that design. I am not of the camp that hides links or makes a user click even one extra time. If important links are hidden or not in one place I will call it what it is: Not Convenient.
