What happened to the edit function?

There is no longer an edit choice in the
Skyburg forum--sems to have been turned off?

Can you fix?

I used to be able to edit my posts, but it is no longer is availabe--others have complained about this also on the skyburg forums. I can edit here, but not on these forums.

Please fix!

thanks

Re: What happened to the edit function?

Try changing the skin you are using from "element blue" to "default," or vice versa. The selection box is available at the lower left of any page other than the index page. In the last few months we've had several problems which were a function of which skin was being used.

Tried the above, but did not fix--thanks for the info though.
I wish the proper admin that can fix would see this thread and fix--support seems poor?

Sandog may have changed this, I sent him a private meassage but no response, perhaps he is on vacation? Can you contact?

Support is poor. But this has changed from a nice little mom an pop website where the owner/admins were an actual part of the community and listened very well to what we wanted (sometimes too well?) and could implement desired changes relatively quickly, to a huge corporate franchise where the owner/admins probably shop somewhere else and only glance over at us to see that things aren't broken, in part because they have many other sites to care for at the same time.

Unlike some, I don't actually fault the new management for this, not really. But we do have some great mods who do everything in their (limited) power to help in any way they can; ctal, Ozzie and kONGO to name a few.

The edit function has been mentioned before...

http://www.abxzone.com/forums/f2/edi...ll-111227.html
http://www.abxzone.com/forums/f2/edi...on-113105.html
http://www.abxzone.com/forums/f2/can...ts-114199.html

Pretty sure it's been mentioned elsewhere too, but those were the threads on the topic that I found quickly.

I believe it was first removed because disgruntled former members were using the edit function to clear the content of old posts they had made. It has never, and semmingly will never come back to full functionality. However, from the above threads, it seems that posts on some forums can be edited but not others. And that the edit function has a built-in timer, after which no editing can be done.

P.S. Pretty sure Sandog had nothing to do with it. He's a mod, not an admin. If you'd like to, you can PM the admin, Maico Shark.

EDIT: Was able to edit this post. YMMV Check RIGHT after you reply.

after testing the edit function a few weeks ago I think it disappears based on the number of views the post gets...I don't think it is a strict time limit (1 hour, 5 hours etc)...I believe it has to do with the number of views the post gets and based on that there seems to be a cutoff point

I have been able to edit posts sometimes 1-2 days later and sometimes only a few hours later before the 'Edit' button disappears...so based on that I'm going to stick to my theory

In my case the edit function in the Intel skyburg forums--- does not work at all---it says the you may NOT edit posts. This is a change from what was true previously and needs to be fixed period.

Hmm, then maybe we modify polonyc2's theory to thread views and not post views, in which case the post you make in that thread would automatically trip the limit.

EDIT: Yeah, just made a post there and had no edit button. Maybe you've hit on exactly the way it's implemented polonyc2.

Re: What happened to the edit function?

I have taken steps requesting that the powers that be take the following actions:

1) Provide an acknowledgement that they are aware that this issue has been raised, and a rough indication of what action can be expected and when.

2) Provide similar acknowledgements and projections when issues are raised about site functionality in the future, and provide them promptly even if the anticipated investigation and corrective action may have to be delayed.

3) Provide a summary of the factors which determine when the edit function is available and when it is not.

4) More basically, allow our members to feel that when they raise issues that relate to the functionality or performance of the site, that they are being listened to.

Zsaz -- thanks for the kind words!

Regards,
-- Al

Seems we keep going down this road...that must be what happens when someone swoops in to fix us up...

Re: What happened to the edit function?

Our tech support Susie, had serious illness in her family and was out of touch in Scotland for a time & has only recently come back on board. Quite frankly I consider the edit function to be a minor posting point. I checked the functionality and found no problem. If anyone here has a serious problem that needs corrected, please PM me & I'll do whatever editing you need.

Whether it is disgruntled former members or happy current members I can be not fathom a legitimate reason to allow editing of any post after 24hrs. I would appreciate a concise rebuttal of that opinion.

Re: What happened to the edit function?

Fair enough for an admin's p.o.v., but it's functionality seems not to be consistent from thread-to-thread or forum-to-forum. That's annoying.

And I see no reason NOT to allow it. Other than management's lack of respect or trust where the site's members are concerned.

Personally, as someone who doesn't use the butchered language that seems to be the internet norm, I can't STAND to see a misspelled word or an obvious grammatical error in my own posts. Such as in my first post in this thread. Which I can no longer edit.

Dam, this is getting us no where. What is true is that in the Intel Skyburg forums we can not edit posts at any time whether a minute or 24 hours. What or who changed this I don't know, but it worked fine before.

As others have said I see no reason NOT to allowe edits, as before. it's the users opinions that should matter not the admin's IMHO. This is a serious problem.

Maco you said you checked funtionaliy and no problem ,but the edit function does not work--again PLEASE FIX!
