swannema: Sunbeam Rheobus is awsome eh? I love it to death. All the other ones have too many lights. Its too flashy for my taste. Sunbeam is simple.

Snafu: Well, initially bought the Nexus fans, cuz they were quiet and highly recommended. Then got the Rheobus (from www.canadacomputers.com) it was on sale for $20. I got it at the one from Pacific Mall. As much as i hate CC, they do have good prices. Then I bought the orange fans from isellsurplus. They do run a bit faster, but not all that much. 300RPM. not sure how much more noise that will produce. most the fans that aree out there have some kinda motor noise or similar problem like clicking. I guess it does make the Rheobus useless if I have it on 12v the whole time, but we'll see how things go. I have a few ideas still. Going to mount an exhaust in the drive bay using either a 92mm or 80mm fan. I don't think the 120mm fan will fit in that area. I'm going to play around with some insents and see how the air moves through my case and determine where I need to put fans. But i'll take some pics and we;ll see what happends. Hopefully you guys can help me out wtih soe ideas i have

Tapir: You already have the Orange Yate Loons? Thats awsome. HOw do you like them? THey are quiet right? The airconditioner looks cool, but not something I'd buy. Is there a harddrive mounted right behind the air conditioner? kinda reminds me of the fan you can buy for the CM Stacker. They one that blows air across your motherboard. That looks cool, but probably useless.

With a Rheobus, I'm not as worried to pt fans all over my case cuz now I can adjust the speeds when I need to. I can even turn them off if i want. I doubt I will put the CPU fan on the Rheobus, I'll leave that to the motherboard. I heard that there are problems with Asus Q-fan. I've never really used it before. But I hope I can just lave the HS fan on full and it doesn't make a sound ..i'm probably dreaming too much.

Anyone have pictures of their setup. I'd like to see pictures of peoples quiet rig's. And to anyone who has held a drill to similar case destroying equipment, I praise you for your courage .

If you want extreem cooling, water is the only way to fly.I spent countless dollars on air for many years. Made many machines that sounded like air tunnels. Just can't beat water no mater how hard you try. Especially if your an overclocker, and if your not....stock cooling is fine.

One word...vapochill

Bang for the buck & quiet water is good but some of the new heat sinks are fairly impressive.

Yes, for EXTREEM COOLING. But then how many people want to go that extreme. If you have a P4 3.0C and it tops out at 225FSB, then that's the point? The thing that I don't get is that OC was originally meant for "free" speed. But lately, people spend hundreds of dollars for a few MHz. It defeats the purpose. If your one the people who are on the bleeding edge and have 'THE' fastest computer, then all the best to you, but many people here just want a decent OC. Spending hundreds on a WC kit is a bit too much for what I would like to get out of my PC. I can run my pc at 250FSB on air w/o heat problems. probably the same OC many of the WC guys here get on theirs.

just my opinion.

You can put some sound dampening materials inside your case like the stuff they put on cars. But this can increase the temp somewhat because the dampening meterial also acts as an insulation.

On the V1000, I think one thing that makes the fan noise a little loud is the case fans. The blow holes are kind restrictive and that makes the fan noise louder. The fans themselves are not that quiet to begin with. So chaning out fans might be a good start but good fans can become very expensive, like the Papst.

I wish I had a flow meter to give you some numbers on how well opening up vent holes really helps. I have 2-80mm at the front of my case (they are both exhausts). When I opened them up you can really feel a significant difference in air flow. It was staggering.

To really appreciate this the fan needs free access to the cases interior (i.e., little obstructions). One of the 80's has free access and I can crank it right up to hairdryer speed. The second is kinda blocked by the hard drive cage. Although it does not blow as much it still works better than before.

BTW - I have modified SilenX thermo-resistor fans at the front - modified to eliminate the thermal probe and wired in a 37K resistor (~50C) instead with a fan controller on them. I can move air if need be but would loose my hearing in the process.

As I placed one of the fans to the bottom of the case blowing up I placed the air conditioner at the top to ensure sucking out hot air. When you place your finger in fron of it you feel the warm air. I also have the 2 mem sticks in their own copper spreaders. Once I get my new heatsink and fan I will probably remove the air conditioner. Hoping to get a copper swiftech heatsink. There atre some very impressive ones at hardcore cooling and even tiger direct. All I want to do is knock off another 5C (down to about 49C load) and I feel much better.

whats wrong with the XP-120 form thermalright? It's a really good cooler & is quiet if you put on a good 120mm fan.

Actually I have a friend I team up with when we need stuff brought down from US and he is getting one for his system. Might really consider it or bring both and see which works best. After this my hobby.

FWIW: I ordered some orange Yate Loon fans and installed them today. I ripped out the drive rails in my case and suspended them using "stretch magic" (1.5mm). My computer is quiet. My vid card fan now makes the loudest noise. Having a fan controller/rheobus really helps.

Following one of Snafu's stickeys on BE, i reversed the airflow for the exhaust fan, and my CPU tems don't go above 40 anymore. all my fans are spinning at ~900RPM (except vid card fan).

I moved the floppy/dvd/rheobus to the bottom 3 drive bays and added a 120mm in the top 2 drive bays to exhaust the hot air. So far, the system is running really nice.

I'll take a few pick tomorrow if I can

Very nice Nef

I might have to play with the air flow again. After installing an xp90 it is so high that it is sitting right in the middle of the two rear intakes. It was fine when running stock cooling but now I am not so sure. I will have to run some more experiemtns with teh new proc and card to see what works.

PS - the xp120 did not seem to want to fit on this board. At 1am I didn't want to bother messing around with it so I just stuck the xp90 in there. Maybe when I get more time to sort it out.

face the heatpipes towards the NB HS. the pipes will touch it (maybe a bit of pressure) but it should be okay. I haven't had any problems since I got it. so i it should be good.

Recommended to put a fan in the top few 5.25" bays in the front. I can feel the warm air commming out of it.

CPU: 31 (Asus probe)
MB: 28 (Asus probe)
VID 35 (ATi Overdrive)
HD 47 & 37 (behind my raptors, so not alot of airflow) (Speedfan)

how are your temps Snafu?

well from what i've been reading...sound insulation should be the last thing you do. PLUS the v1000 isn't exactly the perfect case to silence. it has TOO many holes in them. I have gotten it reasonably quiet except for the video card. but i have to say that the airflow is MUCH better than before. I dropped about 10C in temperature under load. It used to go up to 50C, now it tops at 40C running 2 instances of Prime. you can feel the hot air from the top exhaust in the front of the case. I would like to put some kind of insence in the exhaust and a piece of glass as a side panel to see how the air actucally flows.

Currently i have my CPU fan hooked up to the mobo. I was thinking to split the wire and hook up the RPM sensor on the mobo and the power on the Rheobus. Is this okay to do? any drawbacks?
