Interesting Observation

Like I said earlier in this thread I dropped my CPU temp. from 52.5C to 45.5C using Arctic Silver. Playing around yesterday I had "Silent Tek" running and paused FAH, my CPU temp went from 45.5C to 31C, I guess FAH really taxes the CPU when running.
Nothing Earth Shattering, I just thought it was interesting.

Talking That brakleen stuff works awesome for the wax pad!

That's one of my personal favorite things to use when I have it. It does wonders, just eats it right off. I don't thing the stock TIM interferes that bad with thermal contact if you clean it with something like brakleen, that stuff disolves everything from the scratches in the surface. It's designed to remove grease and oil from brake parts of card so they don't get contaminated by that stuff. You're supposed to have the rotors and pads spotless when you're done installing brakes, supposedly grease and stuff really hurts brake performance. So that stuff cleans really good. You can spray it on a rag and use that to wipe the cpu, that way it doesn't get on the mobo.

Yep, arctic silver is a lot better than the intel wax or the white goop. I've been converted too.

Another great cleaner is CRC Lectramotive. It cleans exceptionally well, evaporates instantly and leaves no residue.

Somewhat OT, so I appologize, but I have a syringe of Arctic Ceramique. Is Arctic Silver 5 "that" much better? I am planning on cleaning the stock thermal pad off of my Intel HSF, re-installing it and then OCing my 2.4 to 3.0. Should I get a tube of AS5 instead of using the Ceramique? Or, should I get a new HSF altogether?

Hi everybody! I'm new on this forum. Btw, it's cool here.

Gotta say I love AS5. Dropped my temps 5C after cure.

If you're close to a Radio Shack (who isn't?), I've found a great thermal pad/paste/grease remover is Radio Shack Cat No. 44-1113 Professional Tape Head Cleaner. It's a 100% mixture of pure alchohols - Isopropanol, Ethanol, and Methonal. At $5 for 2 Fl Oz. it's a little expensive, but it totally strips every trace of gunk from heatsinks and cores and evaporates almost instantly leaving everything nice and shiny.

Heck, Mrs. TQ just uses her dainty little index finger to apply. She's been doing that for as long as I can remember...nothing fancy.

AS5 is a pain in the *** to put on Athon Xp's.

BTW DS, greese on the brake rotors will act as a lubricant, reducing the frictional force between pad and rotor. Resulting in lower brake performance.
