High Temps

I have a quad 6600 on a Gigabyte board. I replaced the stock cooler with an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro but my temps have remained high. At idle and not overclocked, I'm getting 43 to 48 degrees on the four cores which seems high to me. I originally installed the cooler using Zalman paste and reinstalled recently using Arctic Silver 5. Any suggestions?

Re: High Temps

I was going to ask something similar to this once I got a grip on my new system. I have the stock cooler that came with my Q6600 installed at the moment and it s reached a tops of ~60 degrees and Idles around 40. I have an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro but haven't installed it yet. What I want to know is what temps should it be running around? THX!

Re: High Temps

A lot of this has to do with the ambient temp of the room your setup is in. I see one of you is from CT. and the other is FL. Major temp. difference. What were your temps before you put the new cooler on?The air flow in your case is a major factor also. And applying the compound correctly.

Re: High Temps

Also bios and software reported temps can be off by a mile. How are you measuring temps?

Re: High Temps

I'm using core temp to measure temperature. I applied the Arctic Silver in a line just like the web site recommended for a quad core. Ambient temp here in Fl has been about 75 degrees. I have a single 120 fan in the case to provide air flow it's a new case but the older case had two smaller fans and similar temps.

Re: High Temps

Besides the fan in the PS you should have a fan sucking out as well as the one going in.

It seems each time core temp is updated the Tjmax temp changes back and forth causing inaccurate temp readings dependent on version used. What does core temp show as Tjmax? Give real temp a shot and see what it reports for temps. Real Temp - New temp program for Intel Core processors - XtremeSystems Forums

Re: High Temps

I just installed Real Temp and compared readings with Core Temp.

Real Temp: 33, 32, 29, 32
Core Temp: 49, 47, 44, 48

Very interesting. I think I like Real Temp's readings a lot better.

Thanks.

Re: High Temps

Wow those readings are much better. It might even get better if you checked into your air flow. The 1 fan blowing in should have equal or close to exhaust.

The one big fan is actually an exhaust fan out the back. There is a front intake that is presently without fan. The power supply has two fans and the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 has a big fan. I'm not convinced that adding an intake fan to the front would make a major difference but I'll probably add one anyway.

You should also try out HW-Monitor ( CPUID ) I use it to measure my GPUs temp also, I find it very useful but still think Real Temps readings are still the best.
