How much does water really help?

well guys, how much does water really help?
with my current setup running 2.6ghz and running F@H i am peaking at 35C if i turn all my case fans down. I am using a Zalman 7000B Cu to cool. i wouldn't gain much if i were to go to water would I? only if i wanted to push high voltages correct?

I think you're fine as-is. The only reason I went for water was the challenge of it. If you jack the Vcore way up, or you're really pushing the video, then it might help. But for 35C I wouldn't bother.

Unless, of course, it's the "because it's there" factor.

Being that far north i am assuming that your ambient temps are quite cool. Where I live it can get up 110 in the summer with temps a comfortable 80 degrees inside my house. With those ambient temps I needed some extra cooling if I was going to do any OC'ing and put any load on my rig.

Plus the opportunity came up where I could get a great price on an Exos-Al and the challenge was eating me up inside. I dove right in and am loving it.

The Exos is a nice kit, although black might look better with that painted case! FWIW, I spent more going the DIY route, but I really learned a lot in the process.

FB! Those temps on Air are amazing. I am using watercooling and am running only slightly faster than that at 2.67ghz. My temps on water are 40c idle 48c load. Im convinced my board doesnt read temps accurate though. Id be happy with those temps. If you know for a fact that the cpu has more in it and temps are holding you back then it would help but the price to performance ratio isnt positive really

Well, as you can see from my sig below, i'm using water. I do like it, it keeps my prescott cool even with extra voltage. I don't have central air and it does get hot in the summer so definatly it will help with that. Honestly though i'm thinkin of selling it off, because what i really want is a nice stable oc that doesn't need more vcore and i can go completely silent in my case.
I'm gettin to that point where i think silence is golden... so i may go passive humongous heatsink int he future here lol

but ya with the right gear water is COOL

3 advantages to H20 in my opinion:

1. Silence. I was sick of hearing umpteen fans running all the time.
2. In some cases temps. In my case H20 also allowed me to push vcore further without temps being a factor. My newcastle has been running hot since I got it, with vcore @1.65 I was reaching >60C which is bad for the chip and leads to OC stability issues. Now I can do what I want to vcore and dont exceed 45C.
3. Its fun to build your own custom H20 system and looks cool as hell!

Zalman is not exactly the heatsink of choice for overclocking, but it is for low noise. I haven't seen ANY good overclocks on a Zalman to this day, at least none that impress me considering the stock intel cooler is good to 1000FSB on a 3.0C, and I have yet to see any Zalman cooled CPUs running >3.6GHz with decent temps.
With my watercooled setup @3.8GHz, my idle CPU temp is ~26C, max load ~34c on a prescott running 273FSBx14.
Even at 4.2GHz I don't see 40C under load
As sorrow mentioned, the lack of extra noise is a big plus, cooler temps and better stability are a bonus, and it looks cool
I won't be going back to air cooling any time soon
