I killed The Noise!!

Some of you guys have heard me complain about the noise of my Thermaltake Spark 7+....good cooler that whined like mad as soon as the temps went up.....

Well, I got out my trusty screwdriver this morning and took off the fan cover, this thing blocked at least 30% of the airflow and is full of sharp edges and holes (they would make good flute orifices I think , right Cole-Ski?)
I can't believe the difference! I can't hear it AT ALL!!!!!!! Yaaaaay!!!

Mobo temps are 31 right now and it's idling at 33....It's jumped to 36 when rendering video and went right back to 33 after about 10 seconds!!!

If it doesn't fly apart I think I just saved a bunch of money :wave2:

It may have been a good idea for some lan-party box with a window and lots of light, but this is my workstation stuffed under my desk, this is much better LOL

lol why does everyone hate the noise - I leave my spark 7 on max rpm all the time - I enjoy the jet engine sound it produces and have been so used to it that it just seems like there is something really wrong when the machine is off

I spend 8 to 16 hrs a day sitting on top of a turbocharged diesel engine.....it reminds me too much of work LOL...(besides, my ears are almost 50 years old and this stuff is starting to hurt) .It might be less anoying at full speed, but the constant change in the whine is pretty irritating...
I've been watching my temps pretty close this morning and there isn't any doubt that the cover was inhibiting airflow.....a lot

Noise tolerance is inversely proportional to ones age I believe.

Yes, at idle, maybe 1 to 2c..... under load it really did....it used to jump to 38-41 as soon as I started doing anything (video, printing etc) The fan would start to speed up at around 38 and the temp would stabilize around 38-40
Idle temps are remaining 1c above board temps right now 33/33 board and 34 CPU
I tried a video this morning and it didn't go high enuff to make the fan speed up! it rose to 36 and went right back to idle temps while still running the video.
These are the lowest temps I've seen in this system and it's pretty warm here right now....about 25c
We'll see how it fares this afternoon when the ambient gets up into the 30's

I have the non + version so the grid is different - I have had to remove all of it a couple times to get all the dirt out of it
