| Just confirmed with Jason that this is one of his earlier designs. It's not a solid unit like the new mousepots but you can hardly tell it has been brazed he did such a good job on it. The container has been used by KP, AFI and a few other very good benchers since it's creation a few years ago. Quite interesting to find out the history of the unit I thought.

| Did another dice run on the weekend to test if Expert board could fix cold bug. Here are some pics of insulation and set up.

| BIOS detects temps alot better on this board than the Ultra.

| My last batch of dice lasted forever and I had 3x more than enough so this time I just got 7 pounds. That lasted 8 solid hours of benching which is about all I can handle at one time anyway heh. Some action shots.

| My conclusion for Expert and cold bug: A CPU that has cold bug can't be fixed by any MB out right now. All the extra drive strengths helped a tiny bit but did't come close to fixing the problem. However, I did manage to break 1 PB with a cold bug CPU so I was happy with the day. I think this CPU would do 3400Mhz minus the cold bug 1M and it is not a very good clocking 3700+. Tough part is there is no way of telling if a CPU has cold bug until you actually try it. In two weeks I will have at least 1 146 Opti to do dice run #3. More pics and results then. ![]()

| Nice work Eldonko To bad about the cold bug. I seen were Opp stated the Expert wasn't the magic cold bug cure. Neither was MAL settings I like Opp, he has a good sense of humor, and doesn't have the big head.

| Thanks Dru. I was hoping that some people who are considering getting into the various levels of cooling for the first might find something useful. Why learn from your own mistakes when you can learn from mine haha. Speaking of mistakes.. After I finished my dice session I shut everything down and left the tube to warm up so it wouldn’t be stuck to the CPU. However I forgot to remove all of the frost from the tube and it all melted and soaked the MB without me knowing. A few hours later I went into my benching room and my PS was blinking on and off, and all led lights were blinking on Mb and GPU. I unplugged the PS and noticed all of the water had pooled in the 24pin atx connector and PS was shorting out. After soaking up all of the moisture with a cloth and giving a few hours for drying, everything powered up fine and was undamaged. Lucky me.

| Been a few months since I updated this thread so I thought I would add some results and pics from an Opti 165 CCBWE 0550 UPMW that I dice benched today. Unfortunately the chip has cold bug under dice (what chip doesnt these days?) but it wasnt too bad and I was able to work around it a bit. Anything over 2750Mhz I had to run prime or something in the background or I got insta freeze. Good part about dual core is you can prime at prio 1 without it affecting PI times too much. Here's some pics of the set up. I lapped the tube but since I couldnt find fine enough sandpaper it is still not mirror smooth. Much better than what it was though.

| I could run a 32M @ 3200Mhz easily but above that prime would fail because of the heat and cause the system to freeze because of cold bug. After some experimentation I think I found a solution but I didnt figure it out until all the dice was gone lol. Next time I think I can get some more Mhz, prob closer to 3300.

| I was able to get cpu-z validaion @ 3433Mhz, prob could have gotten higher if I wasnt trying for top speed at the end of my dice supply. I was quite impressed on the DFI Expert's ability to run high HTT without a hiccup. Very few boards can handle that and it is invaluable for CPUs with max 9x.
