Ran out of coolant, BigWater needs refill

My BigWater cooling system is going to need a refill pretty soon, but I ran out of coolant. What do you all use as coolant?

I don't feel like spending $15 on a small bottle of antifreeze. I have the feeling the premixed automotive coolant that goes for $5/gallon would work equally well. Is that not the case?

What's the best coolant solution?

I don´t know your system, but i´ve heard from several sources that using premixed automotiv coolant can be very bad.

In my case, i bought 4 bottles of this coolant (needed for the 12V inline pump to work correctly).
A little bit more than 3 bottles have been used to fill the system, since that i´m refilling with distilled water only (as recommended by the shop where i bought my system). The extra coolant will be used only to refill the system after a component has been changed (changed my graphicscard and it´s cooler for example).

Greetings

Dru

Not quite what I was looking for. I want something I can get at a local store, not from Deutschland.

I just need to top off my system. I guess I can use distilled water for the time being.

BTW, this is what I have: http://www.overclockercafe.com/Revie...ter/index.html

Hi martin2110!

Nice cooling system you got there.

The coolant i linked to was only meant as example, not as advice or recommendation for you.

Distilled water should be the right choice for refilling the system. Don´t bother buying something expensive (yes, even distilled water can be expensive), i (and the guys from my shop) only use the cheap one you get at every gas station.

Greetings

Dru

Thanks for the advice, Dru.

In fact, I have some distilled water at home (for the steam iron).

You can find a similar mix of coolant from swiftnets for $1.75 a bottle. I would not run straight distilled water as there is a slight amount of Aluminum in the system and you would not want corrosion on your waterblocks and radiator.
