Silverstone Fans;

I can't tell you how much I enjoy this site. Every time I have a question I can either scroll through the different topics and usually find an answer, or simply post a question and receive some great help.
Today when I turned on my system I noticed one of my fans making excessive noise and, while the noise seem to decrease after a few minutes, I thought I would go shopping for a pair of new fans.
In reading one of the threads on this topic I noticed a link to a company named Silverstone and proceeded to check out their products.
I'm sure the fans I have in my system are not Ball Bearing and that is probably where the extra noise is coming from as these fans are about 3 years old. And yes, they do get cleaned from time to time of all the excess dirt and crud.
I was thinking about replacing them with a pair of the Silverstone 80 m.m. fans. The ones that I found at Tiger Direct have controllers with them. Is it possible to control 2 fans with one controller? And from what I can tell, the controller mounts below the floppy drive. (?)
Can these fans be used without the controllers?
Or does anyone have any other suggestions on other brands of fans?
Thanks,
gtirr

Haven't seen the product you're refering to but in general controllers are a good thing. You can control an array of fans in parallel but it'll change the the electrical properties (less resistance) and the original controller will probably drop too much voltage and turn them right off. The fan controller would probably allow the fan to run at full speed so there wouldn't be any need to defeat this.

Common ratio for a fan is the noise level (dB) divided by the air volume (CFM). If you can find a 0.6, that's getting real good.

I am a big "fan" of the panasonic panflow fans. Low db and great cfm. Another good company out there is Arctic Cooling.
