Target Temperatures?

Can anyone tell me what you should be looking for in a target temperature range? I have ASUS Prob running and in an idle state my Motherboard (ASUS A8N-E) and CPU (AMD Athalon 64 X2 4800+) are running at 46 and 47 degrees Celsius.

I'm concerned that this is a bit high for idle temps and that when I use it for video editing, or another high resource application, I could run into trouble.

I have a set of Corsair TwinX 2048-3200 RAM and they feel HOT! as well, but I"m not sure how to monitor RAM temp. They have their own heat-spreaders. My ATI X1800XL feels hot too.

I could be paranoid, but it all adds up to a lot of heat in one case.

You should try Core Temp to get temperature readings. It's much more accurate than Asus Probe...

I assume that you're using stock cooling?

If the cooler that came with your X2 is the "AVC Z7U7414001," then you should check this out.

Thanks...I'll check out Core Temp.

I am using 'stock cooling' in the basic sense. I do have this AVC heatsink, so after reading that article I feel a bit better. Other than that I have three case fans and my Thermaltake 650 W PSU has a 140mm fan in it as well to contribute to case cooling. The last thing I'm thinking of doing is adding a fan on the side of the case to suck heat straight away from the CPU heatsink.

So, that's "thanks" and some added info, but I still don't have answers to my questions...temperature target ranges. Can anyone help?

Have a look @ link, wattage of cpu multiplied by cw of your hsf plus hsf fan temp measured aprox 1 inch from intake will give indication of best temps to expect.
link explains better than I have and has hsf cw rankings.
It`s best to work it out for your own set up as cases ,airflow and ambient temps vary so muchfrom user to user.

My motherboard temp on my ASUS board runs about the same temp. This is with the fanless chipset on mine though. Yours has an fan on it so you should be okay. Even when under load though the motherboard temp doesn't go beyond 48-49. I don't think you have anything to worry about though. Temperature looks normal to me.

I've seen MB temps as high as 55 degrees, but that was on a hot day with no air conditioning. That concerned me a bit. I have since modified my airflow setup, but was still interested in hearing from anyone in the know what the maximum temperatures could be without getting really serious problems, like a burned up board.

This web page AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor Tech Docs has a link for AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor Power and Thermal Data Sheet which should contain the information you are looking for.

I can't speak about your mobo, but I just picked up the same processor. It is basically the hottest x2 @ 110 watts. Check those specs out.
