| Temps-FN FragBox Falcon Northwest, FragBox Pro I'm looking for others who might own a FN Fragbox, or a DIY with the same case. I'm primarily concerned about any temperature issues and or modifications resulting from such issues. Specs: Processor: Intel quad X6800@2.93GHz no oc. MB: Intel DG965OT Mem; 4 GB Corsair Cooler: Zalman CNPS7000B-ALCU LED Temps: (from Real temp 2.60) 40/38/41/43(cores at idle) (Idle Cal -3, per cores TJ max 75) Temps: (From BIOS) 67/65/66/69(cores at idle) MB 51 I have a difficult time believing the BIOS temps when the processor is at idle, or computer turned on after a > 4 hrs power off state. I need to get an idea of what other with the same make are experiencing. Thanx C |

| Re: Temps-FN FragBox I've identified some areas of temperature concern that I'm going to get ready to address.... 1 The EVERFLOW 60x60x25MM fan (F126025SL 12 7~13.2 0.12 1.44 3600) on the rear of the case is inadequate (rated at 3600rpm) for cooling the Southbridge I/O controler hub and graphics card area in general. 79-82 C under load with the case open. Well over 96 c with the case closed. Also the heat sink that sits on it may need replacing too. This was the original Intel board heatsink. It's a fairly short aluminum heat sink. It's nudged between the graphics card and audio card and I think a great deal of the airflow is missing it. If the heatsink were taller with a faster rated fan, I think that would take care of that heating issue on this area of the MB. I'm in the process of trying to track down parts and look into voltages & MB compatibility issues. The board is an Intel DG965OT Micro ATX. 2 Processor thermal margin reaches 0-1 (distance to TJMax) with the cores showing 77-83 C with the case open. It dosen't take much load. (Terragen 2). I'm not sure I have too much option here as the 750W Power Supply sits a couple of cm right above the Zalman CNPS7000B heatsink and fan assembly. Air intake and outflow could be better in that area. I'm wondering if a cross flow fan would help move air out. So that's what I've got to work on. I knew that when I got the SFF PC there would be some heating issues that would crop up. I've never worked on such a small enclosure before, and with the upgradability limitations with this kind of setup I thought it prudent to seek advice from those who might have a similar SFF setup. | Re: Temps-FN FragBox RE: Falcon Northwest, FragBox Pro SFF PC Today I replaced the old rear case fan with a new one... a REXUS 60mm AFB0612SH-F00 6000 rpm/ 34.15 CFM / 44.5 dBA The fan is rated at 6000 rpm but I've clocked it at 6880 under bias, and idles at around 4000. It's louder than the old one, obviously but not too bad. A very tight work area. I had to remove the Graphics and siig cards to get at the fan header on the MB, but it wasn't as bad as I thought. At least I didn't have to remove the PS. The Southbridge chip stays within tolerance according to Intel's desktop utilities @ 70ish C under load for > 1hr. All other MB temps are down a few degrees as well. I still havn't gotten around to replacing the heatsink yet. The case fans airflow is directed inward. I will run tests with the case fans airfow into the case for a period of time and then reverse it and see if there is a difference. The next challenge with be to get the processor core temps under control. This task may prove to be difficult. There aren't too many fan options considering that I only have approx. 80mm from MB to PS. The PS sits directly above the processor. Most of the fans I've seen don't rate much past 3000 rpm. Any suggestions/comments/advice are welcome. |

| Re: Temps-FN FragBox Some temperature improvements noted with the fan as an outflow to the rear case as opposed to intake. Also added a larger heatsink to the Southbridge chip. Temps stay within the green according to Intel's Desktop utilities. ...This is on the left side of the MB. I have a large graphics card that effectively splits the MB into 2 halves as far as heating go. The right side has the processor with the PSU situated over it. Air outflow on the right rear of the case is inadequate for the amount of heat generated with the processor and PSU combination. An outflow fan would help in this but the only type I would have room for is a crossflow fan. These are hard to come-by. |
