Just saw a nice coolers roundup with Tt's Big Typhoon and some other coolers. In this review the big typhoon was only 1'C better from a 7700Cu under load while they both had the exact same temp while idling. The test was made on a 3500+ oc'ed @ 2500mhz with 1.55V.
Given the fact that zalmans 9500 is better than 7700Cu then it may be better than big typhoon all in all.
Sure we need more reviews to come...

Even if the big typhoon is better, I'm straying away from it because it looks so top heavy. I've heard as well a lot of people didn't like just the 2 screw mounting system saying it didn't "feel" secure enough when mounted.

How much does the Big Typhoon weigh? The CNPS9500 came in at a mere 530g which is a big reason why I'll probably go with the zalman.

Guys,

I've just recieved a letter in the post from QuietPC. The original bracket that came with the 9500 (the one that goes across the cooler and screws into the motherboard retention bracket) could cause problems. Zalman have sent a replacement one and asked me to replace it as the original one is too brittle and could potentialy fail.

Just thought I'd pass that on.

The Typhoon weighs 813g. I have a Thermaltake Venus 12 that weighs 760g. It's been running in one case for a couple of years.

I've used the Typhoon. If you tighten the screws enough, it will hold the heatsink with no problems.

My 7700Cu weighs 918g, it's fastened by 2 screws and feels very safe.

I didn't know you even bothered with air-cooling anymore Sierra. Is the one system with the Vapochill just a benching machine while the other is more of a day to day system?

Congrats! I'll be interested to see what you think of it! You're the only other person I know who's actually bought one, lol.

I've already used the Typhoon. As is the case with any HSF, the fan speed makes a big difference. A number of people have switched out fans on the Typhoon for better performance.

The other thing is that HSF testing is somewhat subjective. The test results I've seen for the Typhoon and the Zalman have been all over the map.
