AMD Records $396 Million USD Net Loss for Q3

AMD records a loss for the third straight quarter

Earlier this week, DailyTech reported that were things were looking rosy for the Intel folks in Santa Clara, California. The company reported that its profits were up 43 percent on revenues of $10.1 billion USD.
Today, it was AMD's turn to report its Q3 earnings results. AMD recorded revenue of $1.632 billion USD -- this represented an 18 percent increase from Q2 2007. However, AMD reported an operating loss of $226 million USD and a net loss of $396 million USD -- this compares to a $611 million USD net loss for Q1 and a $600 million USD net loss for Q2.
Part of AMD's losses during Q3 can be attributed to its acquisition of ATI Technologies in 2006. The company is still reeling from the purchase and recorded a $78 million USD charge as a result. The ATI-related charge involved costs related to integration and severance packages. Another $42 million USD charge was recorded in relation to Spansion.

Maybe because you followed the market info.
Then you should also know that AMD plans/hopes to be break even or close to break even in Q4. (Q1 2008 should give profit.)
Their biggest problem now is market share, and to be honest I wouldn't want their current old technology CPU. Within a month we can start thinking again to buy AMD or intel for a new PC.

A lot of people are buying K8 X2s based PCs because that's what HP and others put in their lower end consumer boxes sold at Best Buy, etc. But that's doing nothing for profits. AMD better learn to turn the screws on video/mobo chipsets and new CPUs real soon now if they want to get some of the higher end market back.

Yeah, it's going to be rough. With Nehalem looking so stellar already, too (not to mention Penryn which is out in a couple weeks). Hopefully they can crank Phenom fairly quickly, with a good stepping and good binning.

At least the chipset side looks pretty solid on specs, low-power and plenty of features. The PWM-based programmable digital power circuitry is going to be a hit among OCers and it's on all engineering samples, thus effectively mandated by AMD. Being able to key into the BIOS how much power you want to divert to PCIe and such gives them an edge, definitely. It's pretty pathetic with all these $3-400 mobos with old umpteen-phase power circuits still.

Re: AMD Records $396 Million USD Net Loss for Q3

Intel knows exactly where they will be in 1-5yrs and it will be way ahead of the competition. AMD will be lucky enough to get their house in order just so they can get bought, ie. quarterly losses approach 0$ in a few more quarters. Then they will probably be worth little against all the loans they have to pay back. AMD is a great company but they are failing because Intel is squashing them. I hope AMD is making plans with another party for its survival. They are too slow and weak on their own IMO.

I installed the latest CCC from AMD/ATI the other day. They are including things like Google Toolbar and other "free" game offers during the install. To me this is pretty sad and bloody annoying. Whatever happen to running the application, clicking next a few times and you are done?

So if AMD sinks, I guess its taking ATi with it too huh?
Looks like Intel might get two birds with one stone...

I gotta admit, I'm an Intel fan, but I hope AMD pulls through.

I am interested in the RV670, might get one of these to replace my 8800 GTS.
