AMD's ATI Hybrid CrossFire Sneak Peek

CrossFire allows an enthusiast to pair together similar ATI Radeon video cards to enable higher resolution and image quality in 3D games, improving the gaming experience.

Hybrid CrossFire is achieved by utilizing one of AMD’s new integrated chipset GPUs (IGP) and one of their new video cards. That’s right; Hybrid CrossFire utilizes one video card plugged into your PCI-Express slot and is able to join forces with the GPU built into the motherboard chipset...

OT somewhat but I read somewhere in ABX that ATI was not coming out with the R680 dual GPU card. Is this card vaporware?

It's not vaporware, in so far as I've seen pics of folks (like [H]) running them. They aren't due out till 1Q08. I just don't see ATI canceling it just because they'll want a big ticket high power card to show off even if sales are slow. But, one thing is for sure, the future has a way of revealing itself

Re: AMD's ATI Hybrid CrossFire Sneak Peek

The new 780G is said to be 3x faster than the 690G which was pretty good to begin with (if you're like me, anyway). Too bad they won't be making Intel boards with the 780 chipset. That would be really neat. (The G35 is bound to be bleh in comparison.) All I would want is great 2D, and enough 3D performance for Compiz or Aero or whatever at 1920x1200 and hardware HD video decoding. Discrete video is so 2003.

I to have seen this card (it's real) on a couple of articles. If this card does not materialize I bet money it is due to not being able to have working drivers. ATI seems to have jumped aboard the multi-card bus but they have not shown the capability to make sufficiently working CrossFire drivers. If the R680 card never materializes then that was a heavy waste of R&D.

You scare me when you say things like that lol.

I have been hearing good comments about the performance of the AMD's new 7xx chipsets. These look enticing. Also, if I were looking for integrated mobo + GPU I would probably get an ATI solution. Shame they are not making Intel socket boards boards like you said.
