I think I'd take Comcast over Mediacom. At least they have reliable service.

What in the world takes 250 GB a month that's legal? On a busy month I will download a couple large Linux distributions and that is perhaps 6 or 10 GB.

It's just the principle of the matter to me.

Re: Comcast Weighs 250 GB/Month Download Limit

Exactly, if Comcast does this, it just opens a huge can of worms. Why after all of these years would they just start doing it? I realize the need to control the worst abusers, but to punish everyone? I'd rather them just selectively charge people more for those who uses the bandwidth than cap everyone.

OK. That part makes sense. Still, I have a feeling that market competition will work to the consumer's benefit to keep a "restrictive trend" from continuing. Once things start to get tight, someone will offer something special to attract customers and blow the market open again. For example, DSL in my area was (relatively) slow and expensive until the cable guys came in. Then, all of a sudden, they were anxious to greatly increase your bandwidth for a few dollars a month. (I recall the difference was $2.99 to bring you from 256M to 1.5G.)

Although a little off the subject, I look forward to Sprint bringing fiber optic here. It should start getting interesting then.
