Moved to the news section for more exposure.

Good catch, by the way.

Yes, a very good catch, and thank you for posting it so quickly. Much appreciated.

This illustrates one of the things that I like so much about the folks over at Mozilla. When there is a problem they admit it and fix it quickly. Contrast this to MS. First they go into total denial, there can't be any problems with their software. Then after they are finally convinced by all the bad press that there is a real problem, they admit the problem but then take 6 to 9 months to fix the problem, often incorrectly or openng another exposure for exploitation.

The difference is clear, Mozilla fixes the problems so quickly that exploits never get a chance to really get going. MS waits so long that the exploiters have a field day, and run wild over unprotected systems for months before the hole finally gets closed after doing much damage.

Software today is complex, and security holes will always be a problem that needs fixing. A vendor that reacts quickly, admits the problem and fixes it quickly is to be admired and given due respect for their responsible attitude. That's one of the reasons I use Mozilla products, and free is also very nice as well. Personally, I would use them even if they were not free, that's how much I like their work. And, yes, I have made a voluntary contribution to them to pay my respects for their fine efforts and to help them keep improving their products.

Thanks for the news, polonyc2!

Did anyone actually see that update icon appear in the "upper right corner of your screen"?

No, Mozilla's own software installation protections stops that cold unless you first add www.mozilla.org to the allowed list. I did however get one of those quick task bar pop-ups (like the pop-up for new mail in Thunderbird) informing me that a critical update to FF was available for download.

I did. AFTER I installed the patch. Then it said that there was no newer patch.

Thanks for the heads up, I actually saw the arrow, at least in SuSE, but I needed to give myself write permissions for the folder there Firefox is installed before the upate would work.

I had to do the same type of thing. I tried to install the patch while being a restricted user. doh! I saved the patch and when I logged in as Admin and right clicking -> open with -> Firefox it didn't "take". So I actually had to start up Firefox and push the 'check for patches' radio button.
