| Intel Montevina IGP to be three times faster than GM965 Intel is preparing the mobile Intel 45 Express chipset (GM45) for its next-generation Centrino platform (Montevina), according to sources at notebook makers. The chipset will be launched in second quarter of 2008. The chipset has a new integrated graphics core, the GMA X4500, which will support DirectX 10 and Shader Model 4.0 and has built-in Intel Clear Video technology to decode high-definition video directly from the core. Performance will be three times faster than the previous GM965 chipset and is expected to compete with other graphics solutions on the market, the sources detailed. In addition to the GM45, the Montevina platform will also have two entry-level IGP chipsets, the GS45 without built-in HDMI and Display Port support and the GL40 with slower graphics performance. They will be launched a quarter later than the GM45, noted the sources. Some notebook makers pointed out that in addition to the updated hardware Intel will still need to strengthen its driver development as this is also part of the reason for the poor performance of the company's current IGP solutions. | As far as gaming, yes they are bad, but when you consider that the largest graphics core producer is upping performance by 3x. That is a major step. |

I'm still tooting my Matrox G400 horn. I can play Quake II at low resolutions on it. Nothing to sneeze at...

| Re: Intel Montevina IGP to be three times faster than GM965 That could be nice price wise. It costs much more for a lappy with 3rd party graphics. I went ahead and shelled it out though. Personally I can't stand Intel integrated such as they are now, but if all you do is E-mail/surf the web I guess it would be ok.
