Intel slashes quad-core pricing

If you're an Intel fan, there's good news in the pipeline: the chip manufacturer has announced massive price cuts for the bulk of their quad-core product lines.

According to BetaNews, the manufacturer is cutting prices on quad-core 'mainstream' chips by up to forty percent in response to the launch of the Phenom II X4 range from rival AMD. In order to compete with the Phenom II X4 940 3.0GHz processor – which is sold in batches of 1,000 for $275 – Intel is slashing the cost of its 3.0GHz Core 2 Quad Q9650 from $530 to $316...

that's a a really good deal...I just checked Newegg and they have the Q9650 listed for $333.99 w/free shipping...that's a massive price cut...I'm actually tempted to jump on it

gotta love competition...in response AMD has responded by trimming the prices for its new 45nm Phenom II CPUs

out of all the Penryn quads the only one I'm really interested in is the Q9650 because it has a clock frequency of 3.0GHz...my current E8400 also is 3.0GHz so I wanted a quad that is at least that much (without overclocking)...the Extreme chips are too expensive...good to see Intel drastically cutting prices on these Penryn CPU's

I'm tempted to buy one now but at the same time not sure if it will be worth it as I mainly use my system for gaming and the current dual core CPU's seem to be better for that...but if Intel drops prices under $300 it would be really hard to resist

Re: Intel slashes quad-core pricing

Good news, indeed. Why isn't Intel cutting the price on the E8600 as well? For the very little speed jump from the E8500 to the E8600, I don't see the double increase in price to justify it at all.

Re: Intel slashes quad-core pricing

Excellent price! I paid $559 and it was worth it then. Intel should at least charge $333 for it lol. Best processor I have ever owned. During their time the previous 3.2/3.4EE Gallatins were my favorite chips and had noticeable performance over the non-EE chips. The new Q9650 does not have the cool EE moniker which won't let you change the multiplier or OC the CPU FSB in IDCC but it runs very cool (mine is 24C idle) and is cheap. This is the best processor you can buy IMO.

Re: Intel slashes quad-core pricing

I am not surprised since Intel had a very bad quarter and announced that it was reducing itss staff by 5,000.

Re: Intel slashes quad-core pricing

Uhh, sure I could. How to pay for it without her finding out would be the problem.

In reality I could go ahead and do as I please, she would not hold it against me ( she would laugh at me....alot! ).

But the point is I promised not to upgrade ( unless it was broken of course ) and after doing this non-stop for 10 years + ( ungrading and building new ) for the greedy reasons we do.... faster, faster, faster... I want to see if I can actually do it.

43 days and counting........... gonna be a long year.
