| Intel X48 chipset may hurt X38 sales Intel recently launched its high-end 3 series chipset X38 in the market, however with details of a chip revision, the X48 chipset, exposed, some motherboard makers are concerned that the X48 may hurt demand for motherboards based on the X38 chipset, according to sources at motherboard makers. Intel recently delivered X48 A0 test samples to motherboard makers. The chipset is expected to launch between the end of 2007 and January 2008 after testing, while motherboards should start appear on the market in the first quarter of 2008, added the sources. | Re: Intel X48 chipset may hurt X38 sales I read someplace how they are getting SLI, and that is Intel bought a bunch of Nvidia Northbridges for the X48 chipset. Don't remember where I saw this. |

| Re: Intel X48 chipset may hurt X38 sales All but the lowest end Nvidia cards support SLi meaning they all have pins on the side of the card for an SLi bridge. This bridge comes with the mainboard and is measured for slot distance. SLi will not work on a chipset that doesn't support it. There have been hacks, but in order to get true support and function, up till now it has to be an Nvidia chipset. The advantage that Crossfire has over it is it works between the cards not needing any mainboard instructions. This is good for people who want a dual GPU solution and be able to run a sweet Intel board like the D975XBX2. It would be a big deal if Intel were to allow/enable SLi. I think they might do it just to take a stab at AMD/ATI.
